Job Description

The City of Compton is a municipal government organization dedicated to providing high-quality public services to its residents. Located in California, Compton operates various city departments including public safety, recreation, community development, and public works to ensure a safe and thriving community. One of the city's valued services is maintaining public recreational facilities such as swimming pools, where community members of all ages can engage in fitness and leisure activities. The city emphasizes inclusive employment practices, ensuring diversity and equal opportunity without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age, or disability, and provides accommodations for applicants with disabilities as necessary.

The City of Compton is currently seeking a responsible and motivated Locker Room Attendant to maintain the locker rooms at its public pool facilities. This part-time position primarily involves ensuring the cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of locker rooms while providing courteous communication and enforcing departmental regulations. The Locker Room Attendant plays a key role in creating a pleasant environment for patrons, being the gateway presence for individuals entering the locker areas.

Under the supervision of the Pool Manager or Assistant Pool Manager, the attendant will be expected to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays to support the pool's operational schedule. The role requires a candidate who is attentive to detail and capable of handling routine maintenance and care tasks efficiently. Additionally, the attendant must be proficient in communication, both in person and over the telephone, to assist pool visitors and respond to inquiries effectively.

Candidates should have, or be willing to obtain, valid CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications prior to beginning employment. No prior experience is required although candidates must be at least 16 years old to qualify. The city places a strong emphasis on safety, customer service, and regulatory compliance, so attendants will need to demonstrate good interpersonal skills and an ability to work independently while enforcing pool policies.

This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking entry-level employment in a community-focused environment with flexibility and valuable experience in public facility management and safety regulations. The city offers a supportive workplace and a chance to contribute meaningfully to public services that enhance quality of life in the community. Throughout the recruitment process, candidates are evaluated on an ongoing basis with interviews conducted as applications are received, and hiring needs permitting the recruitment may close early. Selected candidates will undergo a medical examination, background check, and loyalty oath as part of the appointment process.

Veterans who meet the eligibility criteria and apply will receive preferential credit in the selection process as outlined by municipal guidelines. The City of Compton is committed to transparency and professional standards in all phases of employment and encourages a diverse array of applicants to join the workforce and serve the community.
