The company is known for its commitment to engineering state-of-the-art logistics solutions that enhance visibility and reduce costs for its clients. Penske Logistics operates with a focus on excellence, safety, and environmental sustainability, continually advancing its practices to meet the evolving needs of the logistics industry. As a part of its mission, Penske Logistics fosters a collaborative and inclusive workplace where associates are empowered to contribute meaningfully to the company’s success and growth.
This opportunity is for a Safety Coach position based in Frederick, Maryland, working under the Risk Management/Safety job category at Penske Logistics LLC. The role offers a pay range from $58,000 to $76,800 annually and focuses on promoting a safe and compliant working environment among location drivers. The Safety Coach will play a crucial role in mentoring and coaching drivers to achieve an accident-free record. This position requires a flexible schedule, including afternoon and evening shifts several nights per month, to effectively engage with drivers across different work shifts.
The Safety Coach will be responsible for overseeing driver safety metrics, ensuring compliance with safety programs like Smart Drive, and developing action plans to maintain 100% compliance. This includes training and monitoring drivers, conducting driver probation assessments, and following up on compliance issues related to driver qualification files. The role involves coordination with risk management and safety teams to monitor and improve driver safety performance continuously.
The position also requires managing accident investigations, including reporting to accident scenes, taking photographs, interviewing involved parties, ensuring documentation compliance, and logging relevant data into risk management systems. The Safety Coach will facilitate safety calls, work closely with management and corporate safety teams, and support drivers' return to work after accidents by conducting ride-alongs. Additionally, the role involves monthly facility inspections to ensure all equipment meets safety codes and regulations, as well as other projects as assigned.
Ideal candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with a bachelor's degree preferred, and possess more than one year of health and safety or operations management experience with proven leadership skills. Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and successful completion of OSHA 10-hour industrial safety training, along with a minimum of three years of safety experience, are highly valued. Knowledge of hazard identification, risk assessment, DOT and OSHA regulations, and accident investigation techniques are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and a commitment to regular attendance and willingness to travel as needed are also important.
This role requires physical capabilities including standing, walking, sitting, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, along with visual acuity for close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Penske Logistics is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive work environment where every associate can thrive. Beneficial employment terms include competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits plan that supports the health, happiness, and security of associates and their families.
