Job Description
Labatt Food Service, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, is one of the largest and most respected foodservice distributors in the United States, ranking tenth nationally. The company operates in a dynamic, high-intensity logistics environment, supplying over 14,000 items to food-away-from-home customers throughout Texas and New Mexico from five strategically positioned distribution centers. Known for its commitment to quality, safety, and customer service, Labatt Food Service has built a reputation for excellence in delivering a wide range of food and related products to restaurants, schools, hospitals, and other commercial foodservice providers. The company emphasizes innovation and safety, employing cutting-edge technology across its fleet and operations to ensure efficient and secure product distribution.
Labatt Food Service's Student Driver Program is designed to develop the next generation of professional truck drivers. Since its inception, the program has successfully graduated over 300 students, helping them launch meaningful careers in transportation. This program offers a unique opportunity for aspiring drivers to gain hands-on experience driving tractor-trailers under the guidance of seasoned professionals. The program's truck fleet features the latest radar and safety technologies, including adaptive braking, collision mitigation systems, lane departure warnings, and tire pressure monitoring, to provide both a safe and smooth driving experience. All trucks are new and equipped with automatic transmissions to further ease the driving process, making it ideal for students who are new to tractor-trailer operation.
The role of a Local Student Driver at Labatt involves delivering and unloading between 600 to 1,200 cases per day at designated stops, providing valuable practical experience in handling cargo while maintaining high standards of customer service and safety. Students learn valuable skills such as operating large commercial vehicles, managing time effectively across local routes, and interacting professionally with a diverse customer base. The position follows a Monday through Friday schedule, with early dispatch times to ensure timely deliveries. This arrangement supports work-life balance with weekends off, making it suitable for students or those seeking a structured routine.
Labatt Food Service provides considerable benefits to student drivers, including a competitive pay structure averaging $180 daily or $900 weekly, paid training to acquire a Class A CDL, and pathways for career advancement. Upon successful completion of the program, drivers can transition into full-time route driver positions earning between $65,000 and $90,000 annually. Additional financial incentives include a $4,000 sign-on bonus, a driver referral bonus of up to $1,500, and a $12,000 retention bonus after three years of service. The company also cares for employee well-being through comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance offerings, a 401(k) plan with employer contributions, paid holidays, sick days, and vacation. Further enhancing employee experience are quarterly social events, including barbecues and family gatherings, underscoring Labatt’s commitment to fostering a supportive and rewarding workplace. With a long-term employment outlook and no history of layoffs, Labatt Food Service offers stability, professional growth, and a supportive community for its student drivers.
