Job Description
Labatt Food Service, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, is recognized as the tenth largest foodservice distributor in the United States. Operating within a high-intensity, high-transaction logistics environment, Labatt Food Service supplies approximately 14,000 items to customers in the food-away-from-home industry across Texas and New Mexico from its five strategically located distribution centers. The company prides itself on its commitment to safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction, making it a leading choice for foodservice distribution in the region.
Labatt Food Service offers a unique and structured Student Driver Program designed to train and develop the next generation of professional drivers. Since its inception, the program has graduated over 300 students, demonstrating its effectiveness in providing practical driving experience combined with comprehensive safety training. The program ensures that drivers operate the safest fleet of trucks equipped with cutting-edge radar and safety technology, including adaptive braking, collision mitigation systems, lane departure warnings, and tire pressure monitoring on all tires. Each vehicle is new and features automatic transmissions to promote a smooth and manageable driving experience, ideal for learners.
The Local Student Driver role is an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to start a career in commercial driving and logistics. Student drivers will be responsible for delivering and unloading between 600 to 1,200 cases per day by hand at various customer stops. Beyond delivery tasks, participants will learn to operate tractor-trailers, gaining valuable hands-on experience and knowledge necessary for progression within the transportation industry. The role also emphasizes customer interaction, fostering strong communication and professional skills.
This position is structured with specific working hours, operating Monday through Friday with early dispatch times between 1:00 am and 5:00 am to ensure timely deliveries and efficiency across routes. The program offers paid training to acquire a Class A CDL and establishes a clear career path, with successful graduates positioned to advance into Route Driver roles. Route Drivers at Labatt Food Service can expect competitive earnings, with annual incomes ranging from $65,000 to $80,000.
Labatt Food Service also offers a comprehensive benefits package that supports employee wellbeing and job satisfaction. Benefits include substantial sign-on bonuses, referral bonuses, and retention bonuses, along with a competitive daily and weekly wage structure. Employees enjoy paid holidays, sick days, and vacation, along with comprehensive and affordable medical, dental, vision, and life insurance. The company supports retirement planning with a 401(k) plan including employer contributions and promotes a positive work environment with quarterly BBQs, annual family events, and a culture of stability with no history of layoffs.
For students or individuals with a valid Class A Permit or CDL who are looking to jump-start their driving careers in a stable, supportive, and growth-oriented company, Labatt Food Service’s Student Driver Program provides an ideal platform. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements, including passing background checks, drug tests, and physical exams. This role promises not only immediate earning potential but also long-term career opportunities within the foodservice logistics industry.
