Job Description

Performance Foodservice is a leading broadline foodservice distributor that supports a wide variety of local customers including independent restaurants, hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. The company is part of Performance Food Group (PFG), which takes pride in fostering close relationships with customers through a dedicated team of sales representatives, chefs, consultants, and other experts. These professionals provide valuable advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and overall operational strategies. The company places a strong emphasis not only on delivering high-quality food products but also on helping independent restaurant owners and other clients achieve their business goals. The environment at Performance Foodservice is inclusive and supportive of diverse backgrounds, offering equal employment opportunities to everyone regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, or other protected characteristics.

The entry-level Driver Trainee role at Performance Foodservice offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining practical experience in commercial driving within a thriving food distribution network. This role involves comprehensive training including the PFG Entry Level Driver Trainee or Dock to Driver Training Program designed to equip new drivers with the skills needed to safely and efficiently operate tractor trailers or straight trucks. The trainee will work on various routes including local, intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. They are responsible for learning to handle freight transportation duties, from pre/post trip safety inspections to delivering and unloading food products at customer locations. The position requires adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies to ensure all deliveries are completed safely.

Additionally, this role demands excellent customer service skills since the trainee will interact professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers. Emphasizing teamwork within the department and the organization, the Driver Trainee will assist driver trainers, perform safety checks, load and unload products, complete accurate documentation regarding freight, and support overall logistics processes. The position also emphasizes maintaining a clean and safe working environment including proper securing of freight and vehicles, routine housekeeping tasks, and reporting any safety issues promptly.

The job offers a competitive pay structure starting at an average of $1,600+ per week after training, with a $2,500 sign-on bonus subject to eligibility. Employment is typically scheduled 4 to 5 days a week between Monday and Saturday, starting early in the morning and working until routes are completed. Performance Foodservice also provides comprehensive benefits from day one including health and wellness plans, employee stock purchase programs, 401K employer matching, educational assistance, paid time off, and numerous growth opportunities. The company is committed to fostering a supportive culture that rewards excellence and maintains a safe and respectful workplace environment. This role serves as a strong foundation for those pursuing a professional career in commercial driving and logistics, especially within the food distribution industry.
