Job Description
Sofar Sounds is a global live music and cultural events company that began in a London flat in 2009. It was founded as a solution to the decline in the magic of live music shows and has since evolved into a worldwide movement. The company’s vision keeps music at its core while expanding into other live entertainment forms, including comedy, singles, dance, and more. Sofar Sounds has become known for discovering and supporting emerging talent, providing artists with a unique opportunity to perform in intimate settings early in their careers. Iconic artists such as Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Leon Bridges, and Hozier are among those who played Sofar shows before achieving mainstream success.
Sofar Sounds is distinguished by its ability to create memorable live experiences in unusual and beautiful venues, from ski jumps and caves to private living rooms and rooftops. These shows foster a highly immersive environment where audiences are fully engaged and connected to the artist and community without distractions. Forming an ecosystem that supports content creation, brand partnerships, and global media exposure, Sofar Sounds offers musicians a professional platform that eases the challenges of promotion, booking, and audience building.
The role of Freelance Local Producer at Sofar Sounds is a unique entrepreneurial position designed for self-starters with deep community connections and a passion for live culture. Producers act as dynamic tastemakers in their cities, curating high-quality events that reflect local culture and resonate with diverse audiences. Their responsibilities cover full-cycle event planning, from conceptualizing themes and booking artists to leading promotions and managing event-day execution. They operate with significant autonomy while backed by Sofar’s Global Communities team providing resources, training, and opportunities for global collaboration with like-minded creatives.
This freelance, commission-based opportunity offers freedom and flexibility, ideal for individuals with the drive and vision to grow Sofar’s presence locally. Candidates must be based in the designated city and have a demonstrated history in live event curation, production, and promotional activities. As part of a broader global network, Producers work closely with local businesses, community organizations, venues, and brands to build strategic partnerships that enhance every event’s impact and financial viability. The position also involves managing financial performance and customer experience to ensure every show delivers on Sofar’s promise of magical, hospitality-rich experiences.
Sofar’s culture is deeply rooted in passion for music and community-building, with team members often found sharing new favorite songs or attending live shows in their downtime. The company champions diversity, encouraging candidates from various backgrounds to apply and contribute to the inclusive environment it seeks to foster. While the role involves flexibility, it naturally requires availability during evenings and weekends when live events take place.
Joining Sofar as a Freelance Local Producer means becoming part of a vibrant global movement that champions emerging artists and innovative live experiences, offering you the independence to shape your city’s cultural landscape while supported by a passionate global community.
