Job Description
Sofar is a dynamic and innovative live event company that originated in a London flat in 2009. It was founded to bring back the magic to live music, evolving into a global movement that now encompasses not only music but also comedy, dance, singles, and other creative forms. Sofar is known for its reputation in discovering and nurturing rising talent, having hosted early performances by chart-topping and critically acclaimed artists such as Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Leon Bridges, and Hozier, among others.
The company offers more than just live gigs; it empowers artists through a comprehensive professional platform. This includes handling event booking, promotion, and audience engagement while providing opportunities for artists through brand partnerships, content creation, and global media exposure. Sofar events are unique and immersive, hosted in a variety of unconventional and intimate settings ranging from private living rooms to outdoor gardens, caves, boats, and even ski jumps. Each event encourages audiences to be present and connect deeply with the performance and community.
Those who work at Sofar share a deep passion for live entertainment and community-building, with a culture that values discovery, creativity, and meaningful fan experiences. The company's operations span across the physical and digital realms, making it a leader in modern experiential entertainment worldwide.
The Role
The Freelance Local Producer role offers an entrepreneurial opportunity to join a global network of community builders and tastemakers who shape the cultural fabric of their cities. Candidates must be based in the designated city and will be part of a hybrid work model. This role is commission-based and freelance, allowing flexibility and ownership while demanding accountability and initiative. It requires self-direction, especially as many activities happen during evenings and weekends aligned with live event schedules.
As a Local Producer, you will have significant autonomy and responsibility in event planning, curation, marketing, promotion, and execution. You will develop and implement strategic plans for monthly shows, including the selection of neighborhoods, themes, artists, and venues. Your goal is to deliver the highest quality, diverse performances that provide magical and hospitable experiences.
You will leverage your local networks, cultivating relationships with artists, venues, local businesses, sponsors, and community organizations. This role also involves managing financial outcomes to ensure events are profitable and sustainable. Collaboration with Sofar’s Global Communities and Business Partnerships teams will provide support, resources, and training to amplify your impact. You will play a key role in elevating the Sofar brand locally and contributing to a vibrant, engaged community that shares a love for music and arts.
This position is ideal for self-starters who are natural connectors, have strong business acumen, and thrive in dynamic, creative environments. The compensation varies by event based on ticket sales and performance, typically ranging from $100 to $500 or more per event. You will join a passionate team driven by music, creativity, and the desire to create memorable experiences that enrich local communities and the global Sofar movement.
