Job Description
Sofar is a unique and innovative live entertainment company founded in 2009 in a London flat. It was created to revive the magic of live music, which was perceived to be diminishing, and has since grown into a global movement that embraces not only music but also comedy, dance, singles, and other art forms. This expansion keeps the core spirit of discovering and supporting rising talent. Sofar has been a launching pad for a remarkable lineup of artists such as Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Leon Bridges, and many others, offering them a professional platform that integrates both physical events and digital engagement. The company handles everything from booking and promotion to audience development, with opportunities for artists to benefit from brand partnerships, media exposure, and a powerful content engine.
Sofar events are held in exceptional and diverse venues—ranging from hidden museum rooms, private residences, gardens, rooftops, caves, to even ski jumps and boats. Every show is crafted to be a distinctive experience where the audience is encouraged to be fully present and engaged, supporting the artists through meaningful interaction rather than distraction.
Working at Sofar means being part of a team driven by passion for music and live experiences. Employees and collaborators often share their enthusiasm for new and exciting artists, always aiming to create memorable and intimate events on a global scale.
The Freelance Local Producer role at Sofar offers an exciting opportunity for entrepreneurial individuals to become integral to their local cultural landscapes. These producers join a worldwide network of passionate community builders and tastemakers who bring Sofar’s unique live experiences to their cities. The role is hybrid but requires candidates to be based in the designated city. It is a freelance, commission-based partnership providing flexibility while requiring ownership, accountability, and initiative. Producers work mainly during evenings and weekends, coordinating live events and community activities.
A Freelance Local Producer acts as a promoter, curator, and event executor, with a strong focus on developing local markets by creating diverse and high-quality events featuring emerging talent. They utilize their business acumen, cultural insight, and extensive local networks—including artists, venues, brands, and community partners—to bring these shows to life. The role involves independent planning and executing of events, marketing and promotion, and managing staffing and financial aspects to ensure each event's success.
Support comes from Sofar’s Global Communities team with resources, training, and collaborative opportunities with other producers worldwide. Compensation is commission-based and varies depending on factors such as ticket prices, event frequency, and performance, generally ranging from $100 to over $500 per event, with typical monthly earnings ranging from $100 to $5,000.
Ideal candidates are those with 3-5 years of experience in live event curation, production, and promotion, possessing strong local connections and the capability to build strategic community relationships. They are skilled in selling sponsorships and marketing activations, confident in pitching event concepts, and proactive in problem-solving to deliver exceptional live experiences. This role offers a chance to be deeply involved in the local cultural scene while benefiting from the resources of a global company devoted to nurturing artistic talent and unforgettable experiences.
