Job Description

Sofar is an innovative live entertainment company that began in a small London flat in 2009 with a mission to revitalize the magic of live music. Originally created to address the diminishing quality of live performances, Sofar has grown into a global movement celebrating not only music but comedy, singles, dance, and a range of live entertainment formats. The company is well-known for its ability to discover and showcase rising talent, providing a unique platform that merges physical events with digital amplification. From intimate private living rooms and gardens to unusual venues like ski jumps, caves, and rooftops, Sofar creates distinctive experiences that captivate audiences with immersive and engaging shows.

Over the years, Sofar has been a launching pad for notable artists such as Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Leon Bridges, and Hozier, among others. It offers artists the professional support needed to enhance their careers, managing everything from booking and promotion to audience engagement and media exposure. The company's approach ensures that live events are not only memorable but also deeply connected to their communities, allowing fans to truly connect with the performances and supporting artists through technology.

Sofar values passion, creativity, and a strong commitment to the live entertainment scene. Its team members are devoted to supporting artists and crafting intimate fan experiences that resonate worldwide. When not working, employees are often found at live shows or sharing the latest musical discoveries, energized by the impact their work has on cultural landscapes.

The role of Freelance Local Producer at Sofar embodies this entrepreneurial spirit and passion for live entertainment. Candidates must be based in the designated city, as this hybrid role requires a deep connection to the local culture and community. Producers join a global network of community builders and tastemakers who share insights and collaborate to enrich their cities' cultural fabric. This position allows for creative ownership and independence, making it ideal for self-starters who thrive in shaping a brand's presence locally while supported by a global infrastructure.

As a Freelance Local Producer, you will lead the planning, marketing, and execution of live events, ensuring that each show encapsulates the spirit of Sofar and meets the high standards the brand sets worldwide. This involves crafting event strategies, curating lineups of diverse and top-quality artists, cultivating relationships with venues and local businesses, and driving ticket sales through innovative promotional tactics. You'll act as a key promoter and connector, leveraging your network and cultural insight to build and maintain community engagement around Sofar’s events.

The role is commission-based with pay depending on show volume, ticket prices, and event outcomes, ranging from $100 to $500 or more per event. The schedule primarily revolves around evenings and weekends to coincide with live event timings, providing flexibility but also demanding accountability and initiative in managing your responsibilities. You will also collaborate with Sofar’s global teams to support sponsorships and partnership opportunities that elevate the brand and create sustained growth in your city.

Sofar seeks individuals with strong business instincts, cultural fluency, and a passion for live entertainment. Successful candidates are proactive, resourceful, and capable of handling the challenges of live event production, from logistical hurdles to creative promotion. This role provides a unique platform to influence your city's cultural scene while being part of a vibrant global community of creators. We welcome applicants who share our values and dedication, even if their experience differs slightly from the outlined requirements, as Sofar is committed to diversity, inclusion, and fostering a sense of belonging across its teams.

Candidates who appreciate working autonomously but enjoy the support of a global network will find this role personally rewarding and professionally challenging. Sofar makes use of modern recruitment tools, including AI, to assist in the hiring process; however, all final hiring decisions are made by human reviewers to ensure fairness and accuracy. If you love live entertainment, community connection, and entrepreneurial ownership, this Freelance Local Producer role at Sofar presents an exciting opportunity to build your career in the vibrant world of live events.
