Job Description
Sofar is a pioneering global live music and entertainment company that originated in a London flat in 2009. It was established as a solution to the diminishing magic of live music performances. Over time, it has evolved into a worldwide movement that extends beyond live music to include comedy, singles, dance, and other entertainment forms, all while maintaining a strong focus on discovering rising talent. Sofar has become a respected platform where many renowned artists such as Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Chappell Roan, Leon Bridges, Olivia Dean, YEBBA, Teddy Swims, Remi Wolf, Hozier, and Lola Young first performed early in their careers, helping them launch to greater success.
At its core, Sofar is dedicated to empowering artists by providing a professional and comprehensive platform that spans both the physical and digital realms. The company manages everything from artist booking, promotion, and filling the venue, to offering a wealth of opportunities that include brand partnerships, a powerful content engine, and global media exposure. Sofar events are known for being unique and memorable, happening in a variety of captivating venues — from unusual locations such as ski jumps and caves to intimate spaces like private living rooms, gardens, and rooftops. Each event is crafted to create a deeply immersive experience where audiences are fully engaged, using their devices to support the artist and connect with the community, rather than as a distraction.
The people who work at Sofar are passionate and deeply connected to the arts. They thrive on discovering and supporting new artists and are committed to creating unforgettable, intimate experiences for audiences worldwide. Being part of Sofar means joining a community that values creativity, innovation, and cultural enrichment, with a shared mission to bring live music and fresh entertainment to diverse audiences everywhere.
The Role
As a Freelance Local Producer at Sofar, you will be an integral part of a global network of entrepreneurial and culturally savvy community builders. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with peers around the world while playing a critical role in shaping the cultural landscape of your city. This role is suited for individuals with strong business acumen, cultural fluency, and extensive local networks that include artists, venues, brands, and community partners. Being a natural promoter, you will harness your passion for creating impactful and memorable pop-up experiences that foster real-life engagement.
This role requires a resourceful, proactive, and driven self-starter who can creatively navigate challenges such as selling tickets innovatively or handling unexpected live event issues. You will have meaningful ownership over how Sofar presents itself locally, managing event planning and curation, marketing and promotion, as well as execution. While you will work independently, you will receive comprehensive support from Sofar's Global Communities team, including access to training, resources, and a collaborative network of creators worldwide.
This position is a freelance, commission-based partnership that offers significant flexibility and autonomy in exchange for accountability and initiative. Most work is expected to occur during evenings and weekends, aligning with the natural timing of live events and community engagement. Compensation is based on commissions per show, with earnings typically ranging from $100 to $500 or more, depending on ticket prices, volume, and event success.
Successful Freelance Local Producers will build and nurture Sofar's brand locally, oversee curation and booking of high-quality diverse artists and venues, manage event staffing and quality to ensure exceptional hospitality, and handle financial performance of each event. Building strong local connections with businesses, community organizations, and media partners to drive sponsorship sales and co-promote events is critical. You will also collaborate with other local leaders to amplify Sofar's presence in your city through diverse, buzz-generating experiences.
This role is ideal for those with a deep understanding of their city and its neighborhoods, who excel at relationship-building, possess excellent time management and communication skills, and are confident in pitching ideas and closing partnership deals. Sofar encourages applications from diverse candidates and values creating an inclusive culture that reflects a wide range of experiences and perspectives. Note that this role requires residency in the designated city and a hybrid work approach.
