Job Description

Sofar is a pioneering live entertainment company that originated in a London flat in 2009. It was founded as a creative solution to a widespread issue: live music had lost its charm and intimacy. What started as an intimate platform quickly evolved into a global cultural movement, expanding beyond music into comedy, dance, singles, and more. Today, Sofar is internationally recognized for its ability to discover and showcase emerging talent before they hit the mainstream, making it a unique tastemaker and influencer in the live entertainment industry.

Sofar’s platform has been a launchpad for several now-famous artists, including Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Chappell Roan, Leon Bridges, Olivia Dean, YEBBA, Teddy Swims, Remi Wolf, Hozier, and Lola Young, who all performed at Sofar shows early in their careers. This highlights the company’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing them with professional environments that boost their growth and visibility. Sofar handles every aspect of events from booking artists and promoting shows to venue selection and audience engagement. This holistic approach enables artists to focus on their craft while Sofar handles logistical and promotional needs. They also offer artists access to a vast ecosystem of opportunities, including brand partnerships, content production, and international media placements, bridging physical events with the digital world.

One of the distinguishing features of Sofar shows is their setting. They are hosted in unconventional and inspiring locations such as ski jumps, caves, boats, hidden museum rooms, private living rooms, gardens, and rooftops. Each event is curated to create an intimate and immersive experience where audiences are encouraged to be fully present. The use of digital devices during these events is transformed from a distraction to a tool for supporting artists and connecting with the community, ensuring a unique blend of live presence and digital engagement.

At Sofar, the staff share a profound passion for music and the arts. Their commitment goes beyond professional roles; it’s a cultural ethos that fuels their work. Employees and collaborators often attend live shows and remain deeply connected to emerging music trends, fostering an environment of continuous discovery and celebration of new talent. The collective energy of this passionate team drives the company’s mission to create memorable, intimate fan experiences all over the world.

The Freelance Local Producer role at Sofar is an exciting opportunity designed for entrepreneurial, community-driven individuals who want to take ownership of how Sofar is represented and experienced in their city. Candidates must be based in the designated city to effectively build and nurture local connections. This is a hybrid role with much of the work occurring during evenings and weekends when live events typically happen.

As a Freelance Local Producer, you will join a global network of creators who are passionate about growing local cultural ecosystems. Your responsibilities will include event planning, curation, marketing, promotion, and execution. You will have the autonomy to shape your city’s strategy for Sofar events, including deciding the number of shows, selecting neighborhoods, identifying event themes, and more. This role requires strong business acumen, deep local networks with artists, venues, brands, and community partners, as well as excellent promotional skills.

You will lead the curation and booking of shows, ensuring a high standard of quality and diversity. Your focus will be on creating magical experiences rooted in hospitality, making each event memorable for artists, guests, and partners alike. Financial management of events also falls under your purview, where you are expected to monitor and ensure the financial health of every show.

Building and maintaining relationships with local businesses to drive sponsorships and private event sales is pivotal to this role. Collaboration with other Sofar Producers in shared markets, especially in larger cities, is important for coordinated growth and community building. You will also support Sofar’s global Business Partnerships and Communities teams by guaranteeing excellent event delivery and alignment with inbound partnership opportunities.

This freelance role is commission-based, offering flexibility and entrepreneurial freedom while requiring initiative and accountability. Compensation varies with show volume and ticket sales, typically ranging from $100 to $500 or more per event. You will receive access to extensive training, resources, and a supportive global network to help you succeed in making a significant cultural impact in your local community. If you are passionate about music, live events, and community building, and you are ready to take the lead in your city’s live entertainment scene, Sofar is eager to meet you.
