Job Description
Sofar is a global live music and cultural experiences company founded in London in 2009. It originated as a response to the decline in the magic of live music and has since evolved into a worldwide movement that places music at its core while diversifying into comedy, dance, and other forms of cultural entertainment. Sofar is celebrated for its exceptional ability to discover and nurture rising talent, having featured early performances from renowned artists like Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Hozier, and many others. The company offers a unique platform that supports artists through booking, promotion, audience engagement, and access to brand partnerships and global media exposure, ensuring artists have the tools and opportunities to grow their careers within vibrant local scenes and beyond.
The company creates diverse, intimate music experiences across remarkable venues—ranging from mountain ski jumps, caves, boats, and museums to cozy living rooms, gardens, and rooftops. Each event is designed to immerse the audience completely, encouraging them to engage with the performance in the moment rather than through distractions. This approach cultivates a close-knit community atmosphere where live music and cultural discovery thrive.
At Sofar, the team is united by a shared passion for music and live experiences. Employees and collaborators often spend their downtime attending shows or sharing new music discoveries, fueling a collective enthusiasm that translates into their mission to deliver memorable events globally.
The Freelance Local Producer role at Sofar offers an exciting opportunity to join a global network of entrepreneurial cultural curators who are dedicated to shaping their city’s cultural landscape. This hybrid role requires the candidate to be based in a designated city and involves ownership of local live experience curation, marketing, and event execution. Freelance Local Producers are business savvy, culturally fluent, and highly connected within their local communities, leveraging their extensive artist, venue, brand, and community networks to produce unique pop-up events that foster meaningful, real-life engagement.
This position is designed for self-motivated and entrepreneurial individuals who thrive on creative problem-solving and independent project ownership. It includes developing and implementing city-specific strategies for event frequency, locations, and themes, curating talent and venues, managing event operations, financial performance, and building sponsorship and partnership opportunities. Freelance Local Producers are instrumental in enhancing Sofar’s brand prominence and community connections within their cities through proactive promotion, quality assurance, and collaborative leadership.
Producers receive support from Sofar's Global Communities team and benefit from ongoing training, resources, and a worldwide creator network, while enjoying the flexibility of a freelance commission-based partnership. Compensation varies based on event frequency and performance, ranging from $100 to over $500 per event, with monthly earnings between $100 and $5,000. The role naturally involves work during evenings and weekends to align with live event schedules and community engagement.
Candidates should expect to collaborate with other local producers in shared markets and contribute to growing Sofar’s presence through diverse and innovative events. The company values diverse experiences and perspectives and encourages applicants regardless of whether their background perfectly matches the job description. Sofar practices inclusive hiring with support from AI tools to assist recruitment processes, though final decisions rest with human judgment.
