Job Description
Sofar is a dynamic and globally recognized live music and cultural experience company founded in London in 2009. Starting from a modest apartment, it has grown into an influential platform dedicated to rediscovering the magic of live music and expanding to include comedy, singles, dance, and various other art forms. Sofar has become synonymous with its reputation for discovering and nurturing rising talent, having hosted early performances of internationally acclaimed artists like Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Hozier, and many more. The company operates with a unique model that blends intimate, exclusive live shows held in unexpected and captivating venues—from ski jumps and caves to private living rooms and rooftops—with a professional infrastructure that supports artists through promotion, booking, and a vast network of opportunities including brand partnerships and media exposure.
Working at Sofar means being part of a passionate and creative community focused on creating memorable, immersive experiences that foster real human connections in an era dominated by digital distractions. The organization prides itself on a culture of discovery and support, driven by the collective goal of enhancing both artists' careers and audiences' experiences worldwide.
The Freelance Local Producer role at Sofar is an entrepreneurial and autonomous position ideal for individuals deeply embedded in their local cultural scene. Candidates must be based in the designated city, embracing a hybrid work model that balances independent work and collaboration with a global team. This commission-based partnership role involves a blend of event planning, curation, marketing, promotion, and execution, making it perfect for self-starters with strong business instincts and cultural fluency. Producers serve as the heartbeat of the Sofar movement in their cities, leveraging strong local networks that include artists, venues, brands, and community organizations to create exceptional live events. They are proactive problem solvers and natural promoters who take pride in producing high-quality events that resonate with diverse audiences.
Responsibilities include managing the entire event lifecycle—from conceptualizing the number of monthly shows and crafting city-specific strategies, to booking artists, managing finances, and ensuring flawless event execution. The role requires developing relationships with local businesses to secure sponsorships and private event deals, leading efforts to grow community engagement, and collaborating with other producers to expand Sofar's presence. This position offers the flexibility of freelance work with the support of Sofar's Global Communities team, including access to training and a worldwide network of peers.
Compensation is commission-based, varying per event typically ranging from $100 to $500+ depending on ticket sales and event success. This role demands exceptional organizational skills, confidence in pitching and closing sponsorships, and the ability to work autonomously while staying connected to the larger Sofar organization. Ideal candidates are passionate about live music and cultural events, skilled at cultivating community relationships, and motivated to drive impactful cultural experiences locally that contribute to a global movement.
