Job Description

Sofar is a globally recognized live music and arts platform that originated in London in 2009 with the mission to rejuvenate the magic of live performances. What started as an initiative to preserve the authenticity of live music has evolved into a worldwide movement that now embraces not only music but also comedy, dance, and various other art forms. Sofar's commitment centers on discovering and elevating rising talent, providing emerging artists with a unique and professional platform that bridges the physical and digital worlds. This includes managing all facets of event production such as booking, promotion, and audience engagement, while also offering artists access to brand partnerships, content creation opportunities, and international media exposure. The unique nature of Sofar’s shows—often hosted in unconventional and intimate venues like ski jumps, caves, private living spaces, and rooftops—creates immersive experiences that encourage audiences to engage meaningfully and support artists directly.

As a Freelance Local Producer at Sofar, you will join an entrepreneurial community of cultural curators who are passionate about shaping the local live event scenes in their respective cities. This hybrid role requires that candidates be based within the designated city to fully leverage their local expertise and connections. The producers at Sofar are natural networkers and promoters with strong business instincts and cultural awareness. They are responsible for driving impactful and memorable pop-up experiences by building diverse artist rosters, curating unique events, and activating local networks that include artists, venues, brands, and community partners. This role offers flexibility through a freelance, commission-based partnership, providing autonomy and ownership while demanding a high degree of accountability and initiative.

The Freelance Local Producer handles end-to-end event planning, marketing, and execution. You will craft and implement strategic visions for your city, including setting goals for the number of monthly shows, selecting neighborhoods for events, and developing show themes. By managing staffing and maintaining high-quality standards rooted in hospitality, you ensure that every event is a magical experience for artists, partners, and guests alike. Your responsibilities extend to financial oversight, where you will manage the profitability and fiscal success of your events. Additionally, you will cultivate relationships with local businesses to drive sponsorship sales and private event bookings, collaborate with organizations that share similar values to broaden community engagement, and work together with other producers and Sofar’s global teams to amplify the brand and community reach.

The compensation for this role is commission-based, ranging from $100 to $5,000 monthly depending on factors such as show volume, ticket sales, and sponsorship deals. Producers earn pay per event, with individual events paying from $100 to $500 or more. Your schedule will be largely self-directed but will naturally involve evening and weekend hours when live events are typically held.

If you have a deep connection to your local creative scene, possess experience in live event curation and promotions, and thrive on building strategic partnerships and selling event sponsorships, this role presents an exciting opportunity to make a significant cultural impact. Sofar values diversity and encourages applicants from all backgrounds to apply, welcoming those who share a passion for music, live experiences, and community building. This role offers a unique blend of independence, creativity, and community impact, supported by extensive global resources and networks to help you succeed.
