Job Description
Sofar is a global live music and entertainment company that originated in a London flat in 2009. It began as a solution to the challenge that live music was losing its magic and quickly evolved into a worldwide movement that encompasses not only music but also comedy, singles, dance, and more. Sofar is widely known for its ability to discover rising talent and provide artists with a professional platform that bridges the physical and digital worlds. Over the years, the company has supported renowned artists such as Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Chappell Roan, Leon Bridges, Olivia Dean, YEBBA, Teddy Swims, Remi Wolf, Hozier, and Lola Young early in their careers through unique live show experiences.
Sofar hosts performances in a variety of beautiful and unconventional venues — ranging from ski jumps and caves to private living rooms and rooftops — providing audiences with intimate and memorable experiences. Their shows foster a deep connection between performers and audiences, encouraging presence and engagement without digital distractions. The team at Sofar is passionate about music and live performances, dedicating themselves to creating impactful experiences and supporting artists at every stage.
The role of a Freelance Local Producer at Sofar offers a dynamic and entrepreneurial opportunity to shape the live event scene within a designated city. This hybrid role requires candidates to be based locally and acts as a gateway to joining Sofar’s global network of innovative community builders and tastemakers. Freelance Local Producers collaborate with peers worldwide while deeply influencing their city’s cultural landscape. This position demands strong business acumen, cultural awareness, and an expansive network inclusive of artists, venues, brands, and community partners.
Producers at Sofar are natural promoters who are not only passionate about live events but also adept at creating memorable pop-up experiences that engage communities in meaningful ways. The role is entrepreneurial, independent, and suits self-starters looking for meaningful ownership in their professional endeavors. Responsibilities include event planning, curation, marketing, promotion, and execution of live events. Resources, global training, and support from the Sofar Global Communities team ensure continued professional growth and connection.
The Freelance Local Producer is empowered to craft strategic visions for their city through curated monthly shows that highlight a diverse array of artists and venues. They are responsible for ticket sales, local marketing initiatives, financial management of shows, staff coordination, and building partnerships with local businesses and community organizations. This role calls for proactive problem solvers who thrive on challenges, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and maintain professionalism in every interaction.
Compensation for this role is commission-based, with earnings ranging from $100 to over $500 per event, varying according to ticket pricing, event success, and show volume. While flexible in schedule, much of the work occurs during prime live event times such as evenings and weekends. Candidates will enjoy autonomy paired with the benefits of a supportive global team dedicated to nurturing creativity and community engagement.
Sofar embraces diversity and inclusion, encouraging applicants with various backgrounds and experiences to apply. The company also utilizes AI tools to assist in the hiring process but values and relies on human judgment for final decisions. If passionate about live music, community building, and innovative event production, this opportunity at Sofar offers a fulfilling freelance career path with a global impact.
