Job Description
Sofar is a globally recognized live music and live experience company that originated in a London flat in 2009. Starting as a solution to revive the magic of live music, Sofar has grown into a multifaceted movement, not only dedicated to music but also incorporating comedy, dance, and other art forms. The company is known for discovering talented rising artists and providing them a professional platform to advance their careers. This platform supports artists through booking, promotion, and filling venues, while also connecting them to brand partnerships, media placements, and a powerful content engine. Sofar’s unique shows take place in diverse and intimate spaces such as private living rooms, gardens, rooftops, or other unusual venues like caves, boats, or museums, creating deeply immersive experiences for audiences who engage fully with the performance.
The role of Freelance Local Producer at Sofar is an entrepreneurial position designed for creative and self-motivated individuals passionate about building community and cultural engagement within their city. Candidates must be based in the designated city as the role requires deep local knowledge and connection. As a Freelance Local Producer, you will be part of a global network of community builders and tastemakers, working independently while benefiting from Sofar’s global resources, training, and peer support. The position involves event planning, curation, marketing, promotion, and hands-on event execution. Producers are responsible for developing and executing a unique vision for their city, identifying and booking diverse, high-quality artists and venues, promoting events, selling tickets and sponsorships, and ensuring excellent event quality centered around hospitality.
This role is commission-based and offers flexibility, freedom, and ownership in exchange for accountability and initiative. The schedule is mostly self-directed but will require work during evenings and weekends to align with live event timings. It is ideal for individuals with business instincts, cultural fluency, and strong local networks who thrive on challenges and delivering memorable pop-up experiences. Sofar values professionalism, proactive work ethic, and excellent communication skills. While independent, producers collaborate with other local leaders and support the broader Sofar Business Partnerships and Global Communities teams. The position also offers the opportunity to impact and grow cultural scenes by building strategic alliances with local businesses, media, and organizations. Compensation ranges typically from $100 to $500 or more per event depending on various factors such as ticket prices and event performance. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about live events, community engagement, and artist empowerment, looking to shape the cultural landscape in their city while being part of a global movement.
