Job Description
Sofar Sounds is a vibrant global live music company that began in a London flat in 2009 as a response to the fading magic of live music. Since then, it has evolved into a worldwide movement that not only features live music but also diversifies into comedy, singles, dance, and more. Sofar Sounds is renowned for uncovering rising talent, with many artists like Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Leon Bridges, and Hozier having launched their careers through its unique shows. These performances are curated in a variety of extraordinary and intimate settings—from living rooms and rooftops to caves and boats—offering audiences immersive, device-free experiences that connect them deeply with the artists and the community.
At its core, Sofar Sounds is about fostering meaningful connections through live experiences that bridge the physical and digital worlds. The company handles everything from artist booking and promotion to event execution and audience engagement, providing artists a professional platform and a global ecosystem of opportunities including brand partnerships, content creation, and media placements. This vibrant cultural ecosystem empowers emerging artists and creates memorable, intimate fan experiences all around the world.
The Freelance Local Producer role is an exciting opportunity to become a key player in this dynamic global community. Operating on a hybrid basis, candidates must be based in the designated city to nurture and expand Sofar's presence locally. This role is entrepreneurial and highly autonomous, ideal for self-starters with strong business acumen and deep cultural knowledge of their city’s music and arts scene.
As a Freelance Local Producer, you will join a network of passionate community builders and tastemakers who work collaboratively across the globe to shape the cultural landscape. You will be responsible for event planning and curation, marketing and promotion, and on-the-ground event execution. Your key responsibilities include developing and implementing city-specific strategies for monthly shows, booking diverse lineups of high-quality artists and venues, managing local finances, and building partnerships with businesses and community organizations.
This role demands a proactive, resourceful individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can creatively overcome challenges—from creatively selling tickets to managing live event logistics. You must be adept at strengthening the Sofar brand locally by activating and leveraging a wide network of artists, venues, sponsors, and community partners, ensuring each event is a memorable and magical experience rooted in hospitality.
While this is a freelance, commission-based position offering flexibility and meaningful ownership, it requires accountability, initiative, and commitment during evenings and weekends when live events take place. Compensation varies per event, ranging from $100 to $500+ based on ticket sales, volume, and event success.
Producers are fully supported by Sofar’s Global Communities team, gaining access to training, resources, and collaboration opportunities with other local leaders worldwide. The company fosters a culture of creativity, passion, and belonging, welcoming applicants who identify with its mission and values even if their experience doesn’t precisely match all listed criteria. Sofar Sounds promotes diversity and inclusion, encouraging a variety of perspectives and talents within its team.
Overall, this role offers an unparalleled chance to cultivate your city’s cultural scene, build meaningful relationships, and support rising artists in a flexible, independence-driven position with a global network backing your local efforts. If you are passionate about live experiences, skilled in event curation and promotion, and eager to make a real impact in your community, this role at Sofar Sounds is a perfect fit.
