Job Description

Sofar is a pioneering live music and entertainment company that began its journey in 2009 in a modest London flat. Established as a response to the growing challenge of live music losing its intimate and magical essence, Sofar has since evolved into a global cultural movement that extends beyond music into comedy, dance, and more. The company is celebrated for discovering and promoting rising talents and creating unique live experiences that bring communities together. Artists such as Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Chappell Roan, Leon Bridges, Olivia Dean, YEBBA, Teddy Swims, Remi Wolf, Hozier, and Lola Young all performed at Sofar early in their careers, highlighting the company’s commitment to fostering emerging artists.

Sofar hosts live events in an extraordinary variety of spaces, ranging from unique venues like ski jumps, caves, boats, and hidden museum rooms to more intimate settings such as private living rooms, gardens, and rooftops. Every event is curated to deliver an immersive and memorable experience where the audience connects deeply with the performance, using technology to engage and support the artists rather than distract.

At Sofar, the team is deeply passionate about music and live culture. They are committed to creating intimate fan experiences worldwide and providing artists with a professional platform to grow, which includes management of booking, promotion, and audience building. Sofar also offers access to brand partnerships and global media exposure opportunities, creating a supportive ecosystem that benefits artists and communities alike.

The role of Freelance Local Producer at Sofar offers an exciting opportunity to become a key player in this dynamic company. This hybrid role requires candidates to be based in the designated city while enjoying flexibility in their work schedule, which naturally aligns with live event timings during evenings and weekends. This position is freelance and commission-based, ideal for entrepreneurial individuals who are passionate about music, culture, and community building.

As a Freelance Local Producer, you will be part of a global network of driven cultural curators who have strong local connections and business acumen. You will be responsible for shaping and growing Sofar’s presence in your city by leading event curation, marketing, and execution. You will build and nurture relationships with artists, venues, sponsors, and community partners, continually expanding Sofar’s local ecosystem.

The role demands creativity, resourcefulness, and a proactive approach—whether you’re planning a show, negotiating sponsorships, or responding to live event challenges. You will have significant autonomy in devising strategies for your market, including deciding the number of monthly shows, selecting neighborhoods for events, and curating diverse lineups. You will also manage the financial performance of your events, ensuring profitability and sustainability.

Sofar supports its Producers by providing training, resources, and opportunities to connect with peers globally. This is more than just an event planning role; it is a chance to cultivate and energize your local cultural scene while gaining valuable experience in live event management and community engagement. Compensation ranges from $100 to $500+ per event, based on ticket price, event volume, and success. The role offers the excitement of entrepreneurial ownership combined with the backing of a passionate global team dedicated to reshaping how people experience live culture.
