Job Description
Sofar is a pioneering live music and entertainment company that began in London in 2009 as a creative response to the decline in the magic of live performances. Over the years, it has evolved into a global movement that celebrates not only music but also comedy, dance, and singles, all underpinned by Sofar's reputation for discovering rising talent. The company’s unique approach focuses on intimate, memorable experiences in unconventional venues ranging from ski jumps and caves to private living rooms and rooftops. This originality in event locations, coupled with high-quality curation, creates an immersive atmosphere where audiences engage deeply with the performance and the community, using technology to enhance rather than distract from the experience.
Sofar has been a springboard for many notable artists including Billie Eilish, Jack Harlow, Chappell Roan, Leon Bridges, Olivia Dean, YEBBA, Teddy Swims, Remi Wolf, Hozier, and Lola Young. This highlights its importance within the live entertainment ecosystem as a platform that not only supports artists with booking and promotion but also connects them to wider opportunities such as brand partnerships and global media exposure. Sofar’s innovative model bridges physical and digital spaces, ensuring that every show is a professionally managed, high-impact event that fosters community and cultural connection.
The role of Freelance Local Producer at Sofar is a dynamic and entrepreneurial position designed for driven individuals passionate about building community and impacting the cultural landscape in their city. Producers are tasked with carrying forward Sofar's mission by independently planning, marketing, and executing events while leveraging their local knowledge and networks. As a Freelance Local Producer, you are expected to have strong business instincts and cultural fluency, working creatively to promote shows, curate artists and venues, and ensure flawless event delivery. You will join a global network of entrepreneurial tastemakers who collaborate and learn from one another, supported by Sofar's Global Communities team.
This freelance, commission-based partnership role offers flexibility and ownership, ideal for self-starters who thrive in independent roles but value connection to a larger community and resources. The role involves event planning and curation, marketing and promotion, and event execution primarily during evenings and weekends when live entertainment is most vibrant. Producers are responsible for growing Sofar’s brand locally, building strategic relationships with local businesses, sponsors, and community organizations, and managing the financial success of their events.
The ideal candidate has deep ties within the local music and cultural scene, with 3-5 years of experience in live event curation, production, and promotions. Experience in selling event sponsorships or marketing activations, especially within live events or experiential marketing, is highly desirable. The role demands excellent communication skills, time management, and the entrepreneurial spirit to pitch and close partnership deals independently. You will be expected to foster diverse and vibrant local cultural experiences, ensuring each show exemplifies hospitality and high-quality production while reflecting the uniqueness of your city’s neighborhoods.
While the schedule is flexible, successful producers must be proactive and resourceful, capable of handling live event challenges with creativity and professionalism. With compensation based on commission per event, there is potential to earn between $100 and $500+ depending on ticket sales and event performance. This role offers the opportunity to shape your city’s cultural scene while being part of a passionate global team dedicated to creating unforgettable live experiences.
