This role is that of a Commercial Delivery Driver, primarily responsible for ensuring timely delivery of merchandise to customers while adhering strictly to safety guidelines and company procedures. The Commercial Delivery Driver will be tasked with navigating predetermined routes that may involve 15 to 30 delivery stops a day, requiring strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently. The role demands physical stamina, including lifting merchandise weighing between 60 to 100 pounds, climbing on and off trucks, and handling merchandise unloads while ensuring accuracy in checking orders. Maintaining compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and keeping a valid DOT medical certification is essential for this position.

Effective communication skills are crucial, as the driver must interact with customers, team members, and management to resolve issues and provide clear updates. This job entails completing all reporting and documentation accurately at the end of each day and coordinating with management regarding any discrepancies or system issues encountered during deliveries. A professional attitude and prioritizing safety and health protocols in line with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards also form a critical part of this role.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • one or more years of safe commercial driving experience with Class A or B CDL
  • maintain current DOT Medical Certification
  • strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • excellent communication skills
  • ability to bend, stoop, climb, twist, stand, and lift 60-100 lbs
  • ability to sit and drive for extended periods
  • comply with all DOT regulations
  • ability to work in confined spaces

Job Qualifications

  • High school or GED or equivalent
  • one-year route delivery experience or applicable background driving a straight truck
  • valid Commercial Driver’s License–Class B (Class A preferred)
  • ability to read and speak English sufficiently for communication and understanding highway traffic signs
  • operate vehicle in various traffic and weather conditions
  • meet or exceed company productivity and error goals
  • demonstrate strong customer relations and problem resolution skills
  • effective planning and organizing work activities independently
  • knowledge of product and inventory control techniques
  • maintain inter-department communications related to routing, safety, and customer relations
  • ability to communicate articulately and perform simple arithmetic

Job Duties

  • Deliver merchandise according to pre-determined route
  • unload correct merchandise and check order noting any corrections
  • complete all assigned reports and paperwork at the end of day
  • communicate with Manager any system or documentation problems identified throughout the day
  • pick-up returned merchandise per return authorization
  • comply with all DOT safety and documentation regulations
  • perform safety and housekeeping duties as they pertain to Edward Don & Company and OSHA standards
  • effectively communicate to customers and all levels of staff
  • perform other duties as assigned
