The role being offered is that of a Local Delivery Driver with a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and Hazmat endorsement at the Cheshire, CT plant. This position is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient transport, loading, and unloading of compressed gas cylinders and other related materials between Airgas locations and customers. The role demands a high degree of professionalism, attention to detail, and adherence to stringent safety protocols, including hazardous material handling and rigorous vehicle safety inspections.

The local delivery driver will navigate designated delivery routes operating a Class B Hazmat vehicle. Responsibilities include collecting empty cylinders from customers, managing inventory and documentation meticulously, and providing exceptional customer service at all times. The role also involves physical tasks such as lifting weighted materials up to and over 100 pounds with equipment assistance and working outdoors under varying weather conditions.

Airgas offers a competitive pay range of $27 to $29 per hour for this position, with additional monetary incentives such as a Safety Driver Bonus and Gainshare Bonus paid quarterly. The driver position is full-time, Monday through Friday during day shifts, making it appealing for candidates seeking a stable schedule.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a valid Class B or better CDL
  • Must have HAZMAT endorsement
  • Successful completion of Airgas Background and Motor Vehicle Check
  • Must have at least 1 year of verifiable commercial driving experience within the last 5 years
  • DOT Clearinghouse verification from previous employers is required
  • Ability to routinely lift 25 - 75 lbs and occasionally lift over 100 lbs with equipment
  • Willingness to work outdoors in changing temperatures
  • Ability to maintain a drug-free workplace
  • Adherence to safety regulations and policies

Job Qualifications

  • Touch freight delivery experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Operate a Class B Hazmat vehicle to deliver compressed and liquid gas cylinders and hard goods along designated routes
  • Collect empty cylinders from customers and address inquiries to ensure satisfaction
  • Record all transactions accurately and obtain necessary customer signatures
  • Handle the loading and unloading of all materials
  • Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections noting any safety issues
  • Maintain a professional appearance and represent the company during deliveries
