Job Description
Airgas, an Air Liquide company, is a leading supplier in the United States specializing in industrial, medical, and specialty gases, along with hardgoods and associated products. It is recognized as one of the largest U.S. suppliers of safety products and a foremost provider of ammonia and process chemicals. With a workforce of approximately 18,000 dedicated associates, Airgas fosters a culture grounded in safety, customer success, sustainability, and innovation. Located in 60 countries worldwide, its parent company, Air Liquide, employs about 66,500 individuals and serves over 4 million customers and patients globally.
Joining Airgas means becoming part of an organization that values diversity, inclusivity, and the unique backgrounds of all employees. The company is committed to creating an engaging and supportive environment where every individual can thrive, contribute, and grow. Airgas promotes internal mobility, personal growth, and offers a balanced work and life environment, helping its employees to reach their full potential while growing in their careers.
The Local Delivery Driver (CDL A) position at Airgas in Columbus, OH plays a critical role in the company’s mission to deliver compressed gas cylinders safely and reliably to local and regional business partners. As an essential ambassador for Airgas, the driver operates company-provided straight or box trucks, managing the flow of cylinders between the branch or plant location and customers. The role entails not only transportation responsibilities but also building and nurturing lasting relationships with customers through excellent service.
This full-time role offers a starting pay of $30.50 per hour with potential for quarterly bonuses. The schedule follows a Monday through Friday, day shift pattern, ensuring a predictable and manageable work-life balance. Airgas supports its employees and their families with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life, accidental death and dismemberment, and disability insurance. They also provide a 14-week paid childbirth benefit to support parents, a 401(k) retirement plan with company match, tuition assistance, paid holidays, vacation, and sick time.
The delivery driver will be responsible for the safe handling, delivery, and unloading of cylinders containing compressed gases. Accurate record-keeping is crucial, requiring the driver to complete load manifests, obtain customer signatures, and ensure the return of empty or rejected cylinders to a plant or branch for refilling. Strict adherence to Airgas safety standards (SAFECOR) and fulfillment of all government regulations from agencies such as DOT, EPA, FMCSA, FDA, and OSHA are non-negotiable to guarantee compliance and safety. Supporting warehouse operations or assisting on the dock is also part of the job responsibilities when needed.
This role demands a candidate with a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License, Medical Examiner’s Card, and preferably a Hazmat Endorsement or the willingness to obtain one. The driver must have at least one year of professional Class A driving experience within the last five years, maintain a clean driving record, and be at least 21 years old. The ability to read and comprehend material safety data sheets, safely lift heavy loads routinely, and function independently under pressure to meet deadlines is essential. Moreover, forklift operator certification must be obtained as part of the job requirements.
Airgas prides itself on being an equal opportunity employer, actively promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The company welcomes all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status. Airgas also complies with government mandates providing accommodations for individuals with disabilities during the employment process, underscoring their dedication to supporting every one of their employees and enabling them to excel in their roles.
Overall, this Local Delivery Driver opportunity is ideal for professional drivers seeking a stable, rewarding career with a reputable company that values safety, diversity, employee welfare, and career advancement. It promises a structured work schedule, competitive pay, strong benefits, and the chance to develop meaningful relationships while ensuring critical delivery operations run smoothly and safely.
