The role of Loadmaster at Atlas Air Worldwide involves traveling to off-line stations, supervising and performing duties related to aircraft and cargo loading and unloading, and ensuring that all activities comply with company policies and government regulations. The position is critical for maintaining the safety of aircraft and crew, managing hazardous materials appropriately, and ensuring the quality of customer service. Successful candidates will be responsible for monitoring contract personnel, analyzing and using load manifests to create accurate loadplans and loadsheets, and operating aircraft loading systems. The job requires keeping current certifications by passing initial and recurrent training, managing reporting and documentation, and ensuring proper use of equipment such as pallets, nets, and straps. The Loadmaster plays a key role in verifying the completeness and accuracy of cargo documentation and resolving discrepancies as needed. Additional responsibilities include maintaining safety standards, coordinating with contractors, completing necessary paperwork including customs documentation, and contributing to the smooth schedule adherence of flights. This is a physically demanding role, requiring lifting, climbing, reaching, standing, and good communication skills, as well as the ability to work in challenging environments such as wet or icy conditions. The job demands a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, and candidates must maintain a current passport for global travel. Job Requirements

  • Pass initial training and testing for loadmaster certification including qualifications in Weight & Balance, Hazardous Materials, De-icing, Fueling, Special Loads, Catering, Security
  • Successfully complete annual recurrent training and maintain valid loadmaster certification
  • Maintain current passport for worldwide travel
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Full range of motion for reaching
  • Ability to stand and walk on concrete and paved ramp, including potentially wet and icy conditions
  • Minimal crawling required
  • Occasional to moderate repetitive bending and twisting
  • Good vision for task performance
  • Good hearing for communication
  • Effective speaking skills to communicate with flight crews, customers, and ground personnel

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Recommended airline cargo and ground handling experience
  • Recommended airline weight and balance experience
  • Recommended proof of IATA/ICAO hazardous material experience
  • Recommended understanding of aircraft positions, heights, and weight limitations
  • Recommended comprehensive knowledge of ground operations equipment
  • Understanding and usage of air freight and flight terminology and processes
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record

Job Duties

  • Travel to off-line stations and supervise contract personnel's performance relating to loading/unloading of aircraft and cargo handling
  • Ensure aircraft and cargo handling meet company and governmental policies and regulations
  • Monitor and perform duties including aircraft loading/unloading, aircraft movement, employee and contractor safety, HAZMAT, reporting and pallet build-up
  • Review, analyze, and utilize load manifest and cargo build up logs to generate flight loadplan/loadsheet
  • Use company programs to build the Weight and Balance
  • Review cargo documentation for accuracy and completeness and report discrepancies
  • Maintain current passport and travel internationally, qualifying for CAAC card for AMC operations
  • Ensure safety of company aircraft and crews by proper loading verification, HAZMAT handling, load plan development, and weight balance determination
  • Ensure contractors adhere to company and governmental safety regulations
  • Ensure personnel at off-line stations perform tasks for timely flight arrival and departure
  • Operate aircraft loading system according to set procedures
  • Monitor contract personnel compliance with pallets/nets/straps procedures and ensure return of equipment
  • Complete and maintain company reports, messages, files, logs, and forms including customs paperwork
  • Adhere to company operating and safety policies, operations, processes and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
