Job Description

Established with a strong commitment to sustainability and community wellbeing, Schupan has become a national leader in the event recycling industry. The company operates primarily across Michigan, the Midwest, and other parts of the United States, showcasing an impressive track record of diverting over 2,700 tons of material from landfills since 2008. Schupan's efforts have also helped mitigate more than 3,400 metric tons of carbon emissions and have engaged over 30 million people through its innovative sustainability platforms. The company's core values emphasize integrity, empowerment, sustainability, and compassion, fostering a workplace culture built on trust, responsibility, and respect for diverse perspectives.

Schupan is currently seeking a Live Event Custodian to join its team on a part-time, seasonal basis. This role is pivotal in supporting the company’s sustainability goals by ensuring that live event venues are maintained in a clean, orderly, and eco-friendly manner. The Live Event Custodian will perform essential janitorial duties, including servicing trash, recycling, and compost bins, as well as grounds cleaning, to uphold the high standards expected at Schupan-supported events. This position requires working flexible hours, which may include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays, to accommodate the varying schedules of live events. The pay rate for this position is $17.00 per hour.

In this role, the Live Event Custodian will collaborate closely with Zero Waste and Recycling Coordinators, contributing to the success of onsite sustainability programs from pre-event setup through event execution and post-event teardown. The custodian is responsible not only for maintaining cleanliness but also for communicating effectively with team members and event attendees to ensure smooth operations and a positive customer experience. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong interpersonal skills, the ability to handle high-stress situations calmly, and a willingness to work both independently and as part of a team. The position may involve physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.

Schupan Sustainability is an equal opportunity employer that values a discrimination-free workplace. The company embraces individual differences and conducts its recruitment, hiring, and employment practices in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws. This role presents an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in contributing to environmental stewardship while gaining experience in the sustainability and event management industries. Prior experience in event management or sustainability is not required but a demonstrated interest and willingness to learn are highly preferred. Joining Schupan means becoming part of a forward-thinking organization that is making a tangible difference in community and environmental health through innovative waste diversion and carbon mitigation efforts.
