The position offered is for a knowledgeable and customer-focused Liquor Department Associate. This role is pivotal in delivering superior guest service within the liquor section of an Albertsons store, promoting a rich shopping experience that emphasizes expert product knowledge and personalized customer interaction. The associate is responsible for continual engagement with guests to understand and meet their needs promptly, courteously, and professionally. The role involves a significant amount of education and awareness about wine regions, grape varieties, vineyards, vintages, and their complementary food pairings. Additionally, the associate must be familiar with spirits, spirit cocktails, beer varieties, and store amenities to guide customers effectively.

In this role, the associate will be involved in a variety of operational tasks such as stocking and rotating products, managing inventory through order placements and checking, and building attractive displays to enhance product appeal. The position requires compliance with liquor sales laws, sanitation standards, and company policies aimed at cost control, quality maintenance, and preventing shrinkage. The associate may also handle checkstand equipment, process customer orders, and ensure proper cash handling protocols are followed. This role requires ongoing certification and training to stay updated on product trends and sales techniques, including suggestive selling and social media engagement to drive guest loyalty and department sales.

The Liquor Department Associate works in an environment that occasionally involves exposure to cooler temperatures and requires physical tasks like lifting and handling heavy items. The position is safety-sensitive, influencing the well-being of the employee and others. The employment type is a mix of union and non-union, with pay ranging from $17.38 to $21.71 per hour, dependent on location, experience, qualifications, and collective bargaining agreements. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay accrued based on hours, paid time off or vacation pay, paid holidays (eight to nine days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement plans including pensions or 401(k) options. Some associates in this position may also be eligible for quarterly bonuses. Job Requirements

  • Must be of legal age for alcohol consumption in the employed jurisdiction
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous retail or liquor department experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members
  • Capable of maintaining composure in stressful situations
  • Willingness to complete certification training and ongoing education

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Build and encourage superior guest service providing continuous attention to guest needs in a prompt courteous and friendly manner
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques with knowledgeable suggestions and professionalism
  • Utilize social media tools to help drive guest loyalty and sales
  • Be knowledgeable on wine regions grapes vineyards and vintages worldwide and offer appropriate food pairings
  • Be acquainted with spirits and spirit cocktails including recipes and ingredients
  • Maintain good knowledge of beer party planning and store amenities
  • Engage in continuous education about wine spirits and beer through ongoing training
  • Remain current on product trends and seek emerging sales opportunities
  • Stock and rotate department products to ensure freshness and date control
  • Restock and use supply items efficiently to eliminate waste and maintain lowest supply cost
  • Order wine from vendors and place specialty orders for guests as necessary
  • Restock racks and build case stacks and displays for visual appeal
  • Order receive check and control inventory to ensure adequate quantity and quality
  • Maintain awareness of seasonal and promotional merchandising and plan orders accordingly
  • Interpret reports complete paperwork and follow company transmittal procedures
  • Operate checkstand equipment such as cash register and scanner to process customer orders
  • Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques and bag customer orders
  • Accountable for proper cash handling procedures and sales accounting
  • Responsible for cost and quality control and prevents shrink
  • Ensure compliance with product handling stocking display and signing procedures
  • Encourage and maintain a safe work environment
  • Ensure proper sanitation and visual appeal of the department
  • Ensure compliance with liquor sales laws
  • Monitor backroom inventory and space security
  • Use related equipment including box cutters compactors hand trucks and pallet jacks
  • Perform all job duties with honesty and integrity
  • Execute other necessary and required duties
