Job Description
MANTECH is a leading provider of technology solutions focused on supporting the Department of Defense (DoD) and other government agencies by delivering innovative and reliable IT services. With a strong commitment to excellence, MANTECH fosters a collaborative and dynamic work environment where talented professionals contribute to mission-critical projects. The company is known for its focus on quality, security, and customer satisfaction, serving a wide range of clients with advanced technical expertise and responsive support.
This opportunity is for a motivated and career-driven Linux System Administrator to join MANTECH's team in Fort Detrick, Maryland. The position is hybrid, requiring the employee to work three days onsite and two days remotely, with expanded telework options available for exceptional candidates. The Linux System Administrator will be integral to supporting a pivotal Defense Health Agency (DHA) program within MANTECH's Health Portfolio, working closely with experienced project teams to maintain systems essential for Medical Logistics (MEDLOG) business operations.
In this role, you will focus on high-level troubleshooting across the DoD enterprise by automating and optimizing cloud environments through OS-level programming. A significant part of the job involves maintaining deep visibility into system health using AWS monitoring tools, ensuring reliable and secure operations of Linux servers hosted within an AWS cloud infrastructure. The administrator will handle backup, restore, and recovery operations, install and upgrade software following strict compliance guidelines such as IAVAs, DISA STIGs, and SRGs, and manage continuous system health monitoring and alerting solutions including CloudWatch and SNS.
The role demands expertise in providing 24x7 technical support, disaster recovery planning, and system recovery aligned with Army regulations. The Linux System Administrator will also diagnose and resolve complex networking, integration, and connectivity issues while coordinating with Cyber Security teams to address and mitigate Information Assurance (IA) findings. Responsibilities also include cloud infrastructure planning and maintaining thorough documentation of system configurations and user procedures.
To be successful in this role, candidates should have a minimum of seven years of experience working with enterprise Linux environments, particularly Oracle Linux, and demonstrate proficiency in scripting languages such as Shell, Perl, Python, or Go. Experience operating within DevOps frameworks and government cloud environments like AWS is essential. The ability and willingness to obtain certifications such as CompTIA Security+, SYSOPS AWS, or other relevant credentials before the start date is required.
The position offers an exciting career path for individuals with a strong technical background who thrive in high-stakes environments where system reliability, security, and performance are paramount. MANTECH supports professional growth by encouraging continued learning and certification achievements, and provides a work culture that values communication skills, collaboration across teams, and the ability to handle complex problem-solving challenges. This role is particularly suitable for candidates interested in working within the Defense Health Agency and contributing to healthcare logistics systems that directly impact military health operations.
MANTECH's Fort Detrick location is a key site for federal defense health initiatives, offering a vibrant and mission-focused setting with opportunities to engage in cutting-edge technology projects. Candidates must be U.S. citizens eligible for Public Trust suitability and capable of undergoing the required Tier 3 Investigation and DoD CAC credentials. Physical requirements include effective communication abilities and the capacity to operate standard office equipment. This hybrid role blends remote flexibility with critical onsite collaboration and provides a unique chance to join a respected company making a difference in national defense and healthcare technology.
