Job Description

We are an independent cafe concept situated in the vibrant heart of Downtown San Antonio, Texas. Our establishment is built on the foundations of warmth, craft, and community, aimed at creating a welcoming space where every guest feels at home. The cafe prides itself on a food program that holds equal importance to its beverage offerings, showcasing a dedication to quality, consistency, and intentionality in every dish prepared. As a small but close-knit team, the culture here revolves around collaboration and mutual support, with every member playing a crucial role in maintaining the high standards that define the guest experience.

We are currently seeking a dedicated Line Cook / Prep Chef to join our team. This role is vital to the smooth and efficient operation of our kitchen. The ideal candidate will be responsible for executing the food menu with precision and care, from initial daily preparations through active service. This position offers a flexible schedule, with both full-time and part-time shifts available, making it suitable for those who appreciate a varied workload. On some days, you will focus heavily on prep work, setting the foundation for an excellent service period. On others, you may be running a specific station or supporting catering and private event preparations. Your contribution will directly impact the overall kitchen flow and guest satisfaction, making your role indispensable.

In this role, you must be adept with fundamental cooking techniques and possess solid knife skills, enabling you to handle a diverse range of culinary tasks. A detail-oriented approach is essential, as attention to recipes, portion sizes, temperature controls, and presentation standards will be critical to your success. Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workspace throughout your shift is mandatory, reflecting the cafe’s commitment to food safety and quality.

Communication plays a key role in this position. Coordinating seamlessly with both front-of-house staff and fellow kitchen team members ensures order accuracy, timely service, and a positive working environment. The Line Cook / Prep Chef is also expected to assist with receiving and organizing deliveries, verifying both quantities and quality to keep kitchen operations running efficiently.

The position demands physical stamina and flexibility. The kitchen environment can be fast-paced and physically challenging, requiring the ability to stand for extended periods, carry heavy items up to 50 pounds, and work comfortably near hot ovens, open flames, and in cold storage areas. Embracing a team-first attitude and being adaptable to changing tasks and schedules are necessary traits, as this role sometimes involves assisting with catering or event support.

Compensation is competitive and based on experience, reflecting the value we place on skill and reliability. We seek team members who are eager to grow and develop in a craft-focused kitchen environment, sharing our passion for culinary excellence and community hospitality. If you are looking for a role where your contributions truly matter and you can be part of a friendly, professional kitchen team in Downtown San Antonio, this opportunity is for you.
