Job Description

Oak View Group (OVG) is the global leader in premium live entertainment infrastructure and services, with expertise spanning venue development, venue management, hospitality, and sponsorship sales. Since its founding in 2015, OVG has established a platform that includes end-to-end capabilities across multiple facets of live entertainment. The company owns and operates an impressive portfolio of seven world-class venues and provides services to many iconic arenas, stadiums, convention centers, music festivals, performing arts centers, and cultural institutions across four continents. This broad reach and comprehensive service model make OVG an influential entity in the global live entertainment industry, marrying innovation with excellence to enhance the fan and guest experience at a variety of events.

Stormont Vail Events Center, managed by Oak View Group and owned by Shawnee County, is the premier entertainment, exhibition, and convention venue in Northeast Kansas. Situated in central Topeka, the complex features five facilities including a newly renovated 10,000-seat arena, a large exhibit hall with over 78,000 square feet of open space, a livestock facility with show and exercise arenas and stalls, along with two community buildings for various functions. This venue is a hub that hosts a wide array of cultural and entertainment events, serving as a key destination for residents and visitors in the region.

As a critical part of the Stormont Vail Events Center culinary team, the Line Cook plays a vital role in preparing and delivering high-quality food to guests attending events. The Line Cook is responsible for preparing hot and cold food items in accordance with company recipes and portioning guidelines, ensuring that all dishes meet the established standards for taste, presentation, and safety. This role often involves direct interaction with guests, particularly when working in public-facing areas such as buffet lines or stations where dishes are prepared to order, so a positive and professional demeanor is essential.

The position is hourly, paying between $12.00 and $14.00 per hour, with tips eligible, making it a competitive opportunity for part-time workers or those looking to gain experience in the culinary and hospitality industries. Additionally, part-time employees benefit from access to a 401(k) savings plan including company matching contributions, offering a pathway to financial security even in part-time roles.

The Line Cook must maintain excellent attendance and be flexible with scheduling to accommodate the event-driven nature of the venue. The role calls for teamwork, attention to sanitation, health, and safety standards, and the ability to operate multiple kitchen equipment items including broilers, steamers, convection ovens, mixers, meat slicers, and chef knives. Maintaining equipment and reporting any maintenance issues, as well as consulting with kitchen leadership such as the Executive Chef or Sous Chef for menu planning and consumption estimates, are important facets of the job.

Oak View Group embraces diversity and inclusivity, fostering a supportive environment where employees from various backgrounds can thrive. Their commitment to equal employment opportunity means the hiring process treats all candidates fairly and respectfully, supporting a workplace culture that values innovative thinking and excellence. This is an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals passionate about live entertainment and culinary arts to become part of a global leader in the industry, contributing to memorable guest experiences at a renowned venue like Stormont Vail Events Center. The position will remain open until October 16, 2026, allowing ample time for the right candidate to apply and join the team.
