Job Description
Grand Canyon University (GCU) is one of Arizona's most prominent institutions of higher learning. Situated in the vibrant Valley of the Sun within the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, GCU is a regionally accredited, private, nondenominational Christian university renowned for its commitment to student success, innovative academic programs, and community engagement. The university combines a strong academic tradition with a modern approach to education, serving a diverse student body both on-campus and online. GCU places emphasis on providing quality education through rigorous coursework balanced with hands-on experiences, preparing students for meaningful careers and leadership roles across various fields.
GCU is home to the GCU Golf Course, located in Phoenix, AZ. This golf course serves as a unique asset not only for the university community but also for local residents who seek an upscale yet affordable golfing experience. The public golf course fosters a learning environment for business students at GCU and acts as the official home course for GCU Golf student-athletes. The golf course previously known as Maryvale Golf Course, has been repositioned as both a community and university resource, promoting engagement, recreation, and education.
The line cook position is a full-time role based at the Lope House Restaurant within the GCU campus. This role offers individuals with a passion for cooking an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic kitchen environment where food quality, customer service, and operational excellence are priorities. The line cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to established standard operating procedures to guarantee consistent food quality and safety. This role demands adeptness in food handling safety, sanitation, culinary techniques, and food cost control to ensure efficient kitchen operations. The employee must adhere to all established federal and state regulations including FDA and OSHA guidelines.
In this role, the line cook will handle responsibilities such as preparing special dietary and allergy-conscious meals to meet customer needs, properly portioning meals following recipe guidelines, managing food inventory and minimizing waste. The line cook is expected to actively participate in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards across all kitchen areas and assist other departments as needed. Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset are vital to promote positive relationships among staff and enhance the guest experience.
Working at GCU also means embracing a flexible schedule which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the demands of a hospitality environment. Candidates must obtain a Maricopa County Food Handler's Card before starting employment and be authorized to work in the United States. This position is well suited for individuals with prior experience in a high-volume hospitality setting who are eager to contribute to an educational institution's food service mission. Success in this role requires stamina and the ability to multitask effectively while upholding the highest culinary standards.
