Job Description

Velvet Lasso is a vibrant cafe and lounge located in Denver, Colorado, known for its commitment to quality, creativity, and an inviting atmosphere. As a well-regarded establishment in the local dining scene, Velvet Lasso offers an innovative menu that blends classic techniques with modern flavors to provide guests with a memorable culinary experience. The cafe and lounge not only emphasize food quality but also focus on exceptional service and a warm, welcoming environment for both patrons and staff. With a strong sense of community and a dedication to craftsmanship, Velvet Lasso fosters a culture where creativity and teamwork thrive, supporting its reputation as a sought-after destination for food enthusiasts and casual diners alike.

The role of Line Cook at Velvet Lasso is a critical position within their back-of-house team, responsible for the preparation, cooking, and plating of menu items with a focus on consistency, quality, and efficiency. Reporting directly to the Lead Line Cook and General Manager, this hourly, non-exempt position embodies the foundational skills that support smooth kitchen operations. The Line Cook is instrumental in upholding Velvet Lasso's culinary standards during all service periods, contributing directly to the guest experience by ensuring every dish meets established recipes and presentation guidelines.

This role demands a high level of discipline, attention to detail, and effective communication within a fast-paced and dynamic kitchen environment. Line Cooks manage their assigned stations by handling setup, restocking, and breakdown tasks, and they play an important role in maintaining food safety standards, including proper storage, labeling, and rotation of ingredients. Their responsibilities extend beyond cooking to include assisting with inventory checks and supporting operational transitions between cafe and lounge settings.

Velvet Lasso values collaborative teamwork, and the Line Cook is an active participant in shift huddles, staff meetings, and training sessions aimed at maintaining alignment with the team’s goals and ensuring consistent quality production. The kitchen culture emphasizes respect, professionalism, and solution-oriented problem solving, especially during high-volume service times. Line Cooks are also invited to engage with special projects and community-focused events like pop-ups and brand-aligned dinners, enriching their contribution to the restaurant’s public brand and communal presence.

Compensation for the Line Cook role begins at $19.50 per hour, with eligibility for overtime compensation. Though the position is strictly back-of-house with no tip pooling or gratuities, Velvet Lasso offers opportunities for professional growth through zone training, menu collaboration, and development toward leadership roles. Benefits include paid sick leave accrual starting from the first day of employment, used in accordance with state labor laws. Overall, working at Velvet Lasso is an opportunity to cultivate cooking skills in a supportive, innovative environment while contributing meaningfully to a team-oriented and community-driven restaurant.
