Job Description

Schweitzer is a renowned mountain resort nestled in beautiful landscapes, known for its passionate team of mountain recreation professionals who exemplify a hard-working yet fun-loving spirit. This establishment prides itself on a friendly and inclusive culture, offering a unique blend of mountain access and vibrant village life for both guests and employees. Schweitzer is continuously evolving to enhance the overall mountain experience and community engagement, making it a dynamic and exciting place to work. As a well-established resort, it caters to outdoor enthusiasts and visitors who seek comfort, adventure, and excellent service in a stunning alpine setting.

The opportunity available is for a Commis Cook (Line Cook) at Crow's Bench, Schweitzer's premier restaurant specializing in alpine cuisine. The restaurant focuses on crafting dishes from scratch while maintaining high standards of quality and presentation. The position is seasonal but offers flexible employment statuses including full-time and part-time with competitive wages ranging from $14.00 to $17.00 per hour. This role is ideal for individuals who have a passion for food, especially global and alpine cuisines, and who are eager to grow their culinary skills in a supportive and fast-paced environment.

As a Commis Cook, you will be responsible for preparing ingredients such as chopping vegetables, butchering meats, and making sauces according to established recipes and portion standards. You'll work closely with chefs and sous chefs to ensure that every dish served meets the restaurant’s high quality and presentation criteria. Your duties will include cooking dishes in collaboration with the kitchen team, assembling the dishes meticulously, and maintaining a clean and organized workstation. Adherence to sanitation and safety standards is paramount to ensure a hygienic kitchen environment. This role requires teamwork with both back-of-house and front-of-house staff, contributing to smooth service operations and customer satisfaction.

Beyond cooking, secondary responsibilities involve washing dishes, gaining knowledge of Schweitzer Mountain Resort’s facilities and services, and assisting with other tasks as needed. There are physical demands associated with the position, including standing and walking for long periods, lifting weights up to 50 pounds, and exposure to kitchen-related hazards such as fumes, odors, and burn risks. Work is predominantly indoors with occasional outdoor duties during the warmer seasons.

The role demands basic food safety skills, general knife handling capabilities, and preferably an Idaho Food Safety Certification. Minimum qualifications include proficiency in English reading and writing, and prior line cook experience is preferred but not mandatory. Schweitzer offers a welcoming workplace where employees enjoy various perks such as a free Alterra Mountain Resort pass, employee housing options, discounted onsite childcare, accrued paid sick leave, a 401(k) match program, great discounts, and access to professional deals. Medical benefits, vacation time, and paid parental leave may be available depending on employment status.

In summary, this position at Schweitzer represents an exciting opportunity to be part of a vibrant team in a magnificent location, gaining valuable experience while enjoying comprehensive employee benefits and a unique work culture dedicated to mountain recreation and alpine culinary excellence.
