GCU is seeking a dedicated Line Cook to join the team at Canyon 49, its on-campus restaurant. This role is crucial in delivering a high-quality dining experience to guests by preparing and cooking food items according to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that ensure consistent quality and safety. The ideal candidate will have a passion for culinary arts, a strong understanding of food safety and sanitation standards, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. Responsibilities include preparing dishes tailored to meet customer needs, particularly those with food allergies or intolerances, and properly portioning food according to SOPs. The Line Cook will maintain sanitation standards in accordance with FDA and OSHA guidelines, help restock food items throughout their shift, and ensure that perishables are properly stored and dated to minimize waste and control food costs. This position requires flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, early mornings, and holidays, to meet the operating hours of Canyon 49. Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multitasking during peak demand periods are essential for success. Candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent and have at least one year of experience in a high-volume hospitality venue, with preference given to those with three or more years of experience. Additionally, obtaining a Maricopa County Food Handler's Card prior to employment is mandatory at the candidate's expense.

Job Requirements

  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends
  • Must be able to have a flexible schedule including early morning, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to obtain Maricopa County Food Handler’s Card at one’s own expense prior to beginning of employment
  • Must have work authorization documents for United States
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently
  • Must successfully pass a background check

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum one year experience in high volume/demand hospitality venue
  • Prefer three years experience in high volume/demand hospitality venue
  • Ability to learn the structure and function of all kitchen stations and departments
  • Ability to prepare and present food according to SOP/Recipe guidelines
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and identify potential problems especially during high volume/demand

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook all food items according to SOP to ensure consistent quality
  • Maintain sanitation standards according to SOP and FDA/OSHA requirements
  • Prepare dishes for customers including special requests regarding food allergies or intolerances
  • Properly portion all items as dictated by SOP/Recipe guidelines
  • Restock all items as needed throughout shift
  • Return all food items not used to designated storage areas, being sure to cover/date all perishable items
  • Control food waste, loss, and usage per SOP
