Job Description

Dear Charles is an esteemed culinary establishment, operating within The Study at Johns Hopkins, which is the fourth property under the distinguished Study Hotels brand. Situated at the main gate of Johns Hopkins University's Homewood Campus, this hotel offers guests a unique experience that blends the vibrancy of campus life with the rich culture of the surrounding Charles Village in Baltimore. The location provides an exceptional gateway to enjoy everything that Johns Hopkins University and the broader Baltimore area have to offer. As part of a revitalized corridor, the hotel and its amenities immerse visitors in a welcoming community atmosphere while maintaining the standards expected of a premium hotel brand.

Dear Charles, located on the lower level of The Study at Johns Hopkins, serves as the hotel's latest culinary addition. It features a menu inspired by its Mid-Atlantic roots combined with the warmth and accessibility of a village tavern. The culinary philosophy here is to present elevated yet approachable dishes that resonate with a broad spectrum of guests. The emphasis is on familiar, comforting fare crafted from locally sourced ingredients, reflecting a deep commitment to quality and sustainability. The menu is thoughtfully designed to offer both robust and health-conscious options, catering to a diverse community that values both taste and nutrition. This environment fosters an inclusive dining experience where high standards of food preparation and guest service coexist.

The Line Cook position at Dear Charles calls for a candidate who exhibits genuine hospitality and a passion for delivering the highest quality service to patrons. The ideal applicant is someone who is curious and constantly seeks to enhance their knowledge of traditional cooking techniques within a guest-centered service environment. This role is integral to upholding the restaurant's reputation for excellence by consistently producing dishes that meet the Chef's exacting standards.

The Line Cook will work under Restaurant Management's direction, following recipes and cooking protocols while collaborating seamlessly within the kitchen team. This includes responsibilities such as preparing and breaking down their station, maintaining cleanliness and safety in their work area, and ensuring every dish is delivered with precision. The position requires a strong commitment to maintaining food quality and consistency, an understanding of menu items and potential allergy concerns, and the ability to communicate effectively with the Front of House team to facilitate a smooth dining experience.

Candidates are expected to bring at least two years of experience in fine dining or upscale casual dining environments, coupled with a solid understanding of various cooking techniques, ingredients, equipment, and kitchen procedures. Flexibility to work different shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is necessary. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in English, and the ability to engage positively with different hotel departments are also important facets of this role.

Dear Charles and Study Hotels are committed to fostering a drug-free workplace, requiring pre-employment drug testing and background checks. Full-time team members who are eligible can take advantage of a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid time off, and paid holidays. As an Equal Opportunity Employer, Study Hotels values diversity and inclusion, ensuring non-discrimination across all legally protected categories.
