The Line Cook position at LCCC is a full-time, benefited role classified under the Staff S26 level with an hourly wage range of $18.03 to $22.09, commensurate with experience. The role is based in the Dining Services department within the Administration & Finance division and operates primarily Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with occasional weekend shifts required for large events. This non-exempt position is eligible for overtime pay and compensatory time under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). As a Line Cook, the selected individual will be responsible for preparing high-quality grilled dishes efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment that serves students, staff, and visitors. The cook will work collaboratively with the head chef and kitchen staff to maintain exceptional food quality and presentation, uphold stringent health and safety standards, and deliver top-notch customer service.

In this role, the Line Cook will prepare menu items by cooking, assembling, and plating meals according to cafeteria standards, ensuring timely service and proper food storage. The position demands strict adherence to food safety and sanitation guidelines and the ability to follow recipes and dietary requirements without compromising speed or quality. The Line Cook will also manage inventory by monitoring stock levels and organizing supplies to ensure smooth dining hall operations. Maintaining cleanliness and safety in all kitchen work areas is a key responsibility, requiring routine cleaning, sanitizing, and compliance with health regulations.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years of culinary experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Willingness to work occasional weekends
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without need for visa sponsorship

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with formal culinary training preferred
  • 2 years of culinary experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Serv safe certification, culinary degree or 4 years food service experience preferred
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks

Job Duties

  • Prepare and menu items by efficiently cooking, assembling, and plating meals according to cafeteria standards, maintaining food quality, and ensuring timely service to meet the needs of students and staff
  • Ensure all foods are prepared, stored and served according to health and safety guidelines
  • Follow recipes and customer dietary references while maintaining speed and quality
  • Provide excellent customer service by promptly addressing inquiries, assisting with menu selections, and ensuring a positive dining experience for all students, staff and visitors
  • Maintain effective inventory management by tracking, organizing supplies, monitoring stock levels, and ensuring availability of material needed for dining hall operations
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment by performing routine cleaning tasks, sanitizing surfaces, and adhering to health and safety standards throughout all assigned areas
