The Cook position at Cambria Hotel Columbia Downtown is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about culinary arts who wish to further develop their kitchen skills and grow their careers in hospitality. This role is ideal for creative and motivated individuals with experience in a professional kitchen or a strong desire to learn. The Cook will assist the Chef in preparing a variety of food products for multiple dining contexts such as kitchen preparation, cafeteria, banquet cooking, and fine dining. The role entails maintaining a passive leadership stance to ensure production levels from the kitchen staff remain adequate.
The successful candidate will cultivate knowledge in various cooking techniques including grilling, sautéing, and frying. They will develop skills in using knives and kitchen tools, recreating recipes consistently, and preparing ingredients such as chopping vegetables and cutting meat. This position also involves learning how to minimize food waste through cross-utilization, maintaining a sanitized and orderly kitchen environment, and ensuring proper storage and quality of all ingredients and food items. Job Requirements
- At least 21 years of age
- Ability to work a variety of day, night, and weekend shifts
- Able to stand for long periods
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds
- Desire to exceed expectations
- Strong organizational skills
- Active Food handler’s certification or ability to get it
- Able to work independently
