PJ Whelihan’s Restaurant + Pub, the company’s 26th location, is set to open in Spring 2026 in Newtown, PA. The new restaurant promises to uphold the traditions of the PJW brand while offering a unique community space where guests can enjoy top-quality food, outstanding service, and an engaging sports viewing experience. The company is actively hiring Line Cooks for this exciting new location, welcoming applicants eager to join a dynamic team from day one. This role reports directly to the Assistant Kitchen Manager or Kitchen Manager and plays a critical part in maintaining the high standards PJW restaurants are known for.
The Line Cook position at PJ Whelihan’s Newtown demands a blend of culinary skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Candidates are expected to prepare food using various cooking techniques including broiling, grilling, frying, and sautéing, ensuring each dish meets strict presentation and quality standards. The role also involves maintaining a clean and organized workstation, managing inventory effectively by handling and rotating products properly, and working collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth operations during service. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a calm and composed demeanor under pressure, and a leadership spirit characterized by responsibility and confidence in their duties. Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- previous experience as a line cook or in a similar kitchen role preferred
- ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
- strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards under pressure
- excellent teamwork and communication skills
- ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds
- food safety knowledge and certification is a plus
Job Qualifications
- must be able to communicate clearly with managers, kitchen and dining room personnel
- be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 40 pounds
- be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 9 hours)
Job Duties
- prepare items for broiling, grilling, frying, sautéing or other cooking methods by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning and/or marinating
- follow proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes
- know and comply with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies and procedures
- maintain a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, sauté burners, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment
- handle, store and rotate all products properly
- stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period
- portion food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications
- assume 100% responsibility for quality of products served
- assist in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed
- close the kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for kitchen stations
- assist others in closing the kitchen
- attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement
- perform other related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or manager-on-duty
