The position of Line Cook at Covenant Living is a pivotal role within the organization, tasked with preparing and cooking a variety of hot and cold food items across multiple meal periods including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special catered events. This role demands proficiency in classical cooking techniques and the ability to produce both small and large batch goods while ensuring consistent high-quality food production. The cook is responsible for adhering to standardized recipes and food safety regulations to maintain a high standard of sanitation and compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines.

Key responsibilities include preparing and portioning food to order, operating grill stations, and managing food production in accordance with health and safety standards. The Line Cook actively participates in inventory management, sanitation practices, and safety policies, contributing to an efficient kitchen environment. This role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and a compassionate attitude toward senior residents. Candidates must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage several tasks efficiently while maintaining a neat and orderly workspace.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Current Food Handler's Permit
  • 3-4 years of related food service and cooking experience desired
  • Experience with kitchen equipment preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced knife skills
  • Knowledge of kitchen environment and food preparation
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • Ability to read and follow recipes and safety instructions

Job Qualifications

  • State sanitation certificate
  • 3-4 years of related and advanced food service and cooking experience desired

  • Intermediate to advanced knife experience
  • Extensive working knowledge of a kitchen environment and food preparation
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions and safety practices
  • Ability to use basic computer functions

Job Duties

  • Prepares and cooks to order foods that may require short to mid-level preparation time
  • May prepare food and serve customers at an a la carte and may operate a grill station
  • Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and corporate standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided
  • Reads food order or receives verbal instructions on food required by patron and prepares and cooks food according to instructions
  • Provides the highest quality of service to customers
  • Follows basic recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and other food products for consumption in eating establishments
  • Prepares foods under direct supervision or instruction by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry, or fish for culinary use
