The role of the Line Cook at Ugly Dumpling is a vital position responsible for preparing and executing menu items with precision, speed, and consistency. This position is designed for culinary professionals who thrive in a dynamic and high-pressure environment and are passionate about delivering top-tier food quality and presentation. As a Line Cook, you will be expected to prepare, cook, and plate dishes according to Ugly Dumpling’s recipes and presentation standards, ensuring each plate meets the highest expectations for taste, appearance, and freshness. You will maintain a clean and organized workstation, monitor food quality continuously, assist with ingredient prep work, and ensure strict adherence to all safety, sanitation, and health regulations in the kitchen.

In addition to technical skills, this role demands strong communication and teamwork as you collaborate with other kitchen staff to facilitate seamless service during busy shifts. You will handle special requests and menu modifications as directed by the Culinary Manager or Corporate Chef, support team members under pressure, participate in pre-shift meetings, and assist with opening and closing kitchen duties such as cleaning, restocking, and organizing. The position requires physical stamina, including the ability to stand for long periods and perform various physical tasks. Job Requirements

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8-10 hours per shift)
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25-50 pounds
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive movements in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work in varying conditions, including heat, cold, and noise
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as a line cook or in a similar kitchen role preferred
  • Strong knife skills and familiarity with kitchen equipment and techniques
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation requirements
  • Team player with strong communication and time-management skills
  • Ability to follow recipes and procedures accurately
  • Willingness to learn and grow in a professional kitchen environment

Job Duties

  • Prepare, cook, and plate menu items following Ugly Dumpling's recipes and presentation standards
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation during service
  • Monitor food quality and freshness to ensure every dish meets company standards
  • Assist with prep work, including chopping, portioning, and assembling ingredients
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and health guidelines to ensure a clean and safe kitchen environment
  • Operate kitchen equipment, including woks, steamers, grills, and fryers, safely and efficiently
  • Communicate effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure seamless service
  • Handle special requests or modifications as directed by the Culinary Manager or Corporate Chef
  • Support other team members during high-volume shifts to maintain smooth operations
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings to review specials, changes, or operational updates
  • Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties, including cleaning, restocking, and organizing supplies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
