Communication is essential in this role; Line Cooks must effectively liaise with the Kitchen Manager or Expediter to ensure smooth order flow and keep track of prep needs for upcoming shifts. Additionally, they play a key part in inventory management by ensuring unused food products are properly stored with correct labeling and dates to prevent spoilage. Line Cooks are responsible for identifying and reporting any shortages, waste/spoilage, equipment deficiencies, or health and safety concerns immediately to the Management Team, ensuring operational efficiency and compliance.
This position generally requires employees to be on their feet for extended periods, sometimes up to six hours, and involves physical tasks like stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and carrying – sometimes lifting up to 50 lbs during the shift. Job Duties
- Properly prepares and stocks station
- Accurately prepares all food items during work shift according to food orders while minimizing waste
- Safely handles food product and maintains work area sanitized in compliance with health and safety regulations
- Effectively communicates with Kitchen Manager or Expediter regarding guest orders
- Keeps track of and communicates prep needs for the following shift
- Follows portion and quality control guidelines
- Ensures all unused food products are stored or restocked with proper rotation and labeling
- Ensures kitchen appliances and equipment are cleaned and turned off at the end of each work day
- Promptly notifies Management of any shortages or waste/spoilage
- Reports any health or safety concerns and equipment deficiencies to Management
- Performs all duties as assigned including completing opening and closing checklists
