The Prep/Line Cook position at a Lowlands Group restaurant plays a vital role in the kitchen's operation and overall restaurant success. This role is essential to the smooth running of the kitchen and ensuring guests leave satisfied with their dining experience. As a Prep/Line Cook, individuals receive extensive training to master the preparation of high volumes of perfectly executed recipes in a fast-paced environment. This role requires efficiency, speed, and attention to detail as these cooks are the backbone of the kitchen, responsible for setting up stations, preparing food items accurately and according to established recipes, and maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout their shift. Reporting directly to the Chef or Sous Chef, Prep/Line Cooks work closely with fellow kitchen team members to uphold sanitation and safety standards, stock necessary ingredients, and contribute to the overall kitchen workflow.
In this position, the Prep/Line Cook must demonstrate professionalism, sharp culinary knowledge including knife handling and food safety, and the ability to function effectively under pressure. It is a physically demanding role requiring standing for long periods, lifting heavy items, and maintaining stamina throughout the shift. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience as a prep or line cook
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to lift up to fifty pounds
- Team lifting for items over twenty-five pounds
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to follow instructions
- Strong communication skills
Job Qualifications
- Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills
- Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
- Previous prep or line cook experience
- Ability to take direction
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
- Must have problem solving abilities, be self-motivated, and organized
- Commitment to quality service, and food and beverage knowledge
Job Duties
- Sets up station according to restaurant guidelines
- Prepares all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner
- Follows recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the restaurant
- Restocks all items as needed throughout shift
- Cleans and maintains station in practicing good safety, sanitation, organizational skills
- Has understanding and knowledge to properly use and maintain all equipment in station
- Assists with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and all storage areas
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested by the Chef or Kitchen Manager at any time
