Job Description
Walk-On's Sports Bistreaux is a vibrant and dynamic restaurant chain deeply rooted in the spirit of Louisiana and the energy of game day. Founded by two LSU walk-on basketball players who transformed their dream into reality, Walk-On's has grown from a humble single location in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, into a nationally recognized brand. The establishment is known for its scratch-made dishes infused with authentic Louisiana flair and a lively, welcoming atmosphere that brings people together to enjoy sports, food, and camaraderie. At Walk-On's, every guest experience is crafted with care, passion, and a strong sense of hospitality, creating an environment where both patrons and team members feel valued and included.
Walk-On's operates with core values that emphasize teamwork, hospitality, passion, growth, and community. These principles guide the culture of the restaurant, focusing on collaboration, delivering exceptional dining experiences, maintaining high energy and pride in the work, investing in employee development, and supporting the neighborhoods served. This commitment to culture and quality has fostered a winning environment where employees are encouraged to thrive, learn, and advance their careers.
The role available is for a Part-Time Cook, classified as non-exempt, reporting directly to the Kitchen Manager or Manager on Duty. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in fast-paced, high-energy environments and are passionate about food and service. Whether prepping, frying, working the line, grilling, assembling salads, or crafting sandwiches, Walk-On's cooks are essential playmakers who bring the restaurant’s culinary vision to life.
As a Cook at Walk-On's, you will be trusted to execute chef-driven recipes with precision, ensuring every dish reflects the signature Walk-On’s style. You will work diligently to maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen, adhering strictly to food safety and sanitation standards, including HACCP guidelines. The role demands stamina and focus, especially during busy game days when high volume and quick service are the norms.
Further responsibilities include managing food rotation, labeling ingredients accurately, using portion control tools, calibrating kitchen equipment like thermometers and fryers, and supporting inventory tasks such as unloading deliveries and stocking supplies. Cooks are also expected to assist teammates wherever needed to maintain smooth kitchen operations and prepare the kitchen for the next shift by handling tasks like trash removal and cardboard breakdown.
This role demands a positive, team-first attitude, reliability, quick learning ability, multitasking skills, and a dedication to plating high-quality dishes consistently. Walk-On's supports flexible scheduling, making this a perfect opportunity for students or individuals balancing other commitments. The culture fosters growth, giving diligent and motivated individuals the chance to develop from line cooks to kitchen leaders, reinforcing the restaurant's commitment to internal advancement.
Dress code standards are maintained to ensure professionalism and safety, including wearing black closed-toe shoes, long black pants, approved Back of House shirts, and appropriate hair and facial hair coverings. Compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations is mandatory, ensuring the highest standards for food safety and equipment use.
Joining Walk-On's means becoming part of a passionate team that celebrates diversity, teamwork, and dedication. It is more than just a job; it is an opportunity to contribute to a thriving culture where your efforts make an impact every day, and your success is celebrated as part of the team’s victories.
