Job Description
Farmer Boys is a well-established restaurant operation that prides itself on delivering high-quality, freshly prepared food to its customers in a timely and efficient manner. Known for its commitment to excellence in food safety, customer service, and teamwork, Farmer Boys offers a dynamic work environment for individuals passionate about the food service industry. The company fosters a culture that values detail orientation, discipline, and a genuine concern for guest satisfaction, making it an ideal workplace for those looking to grow their culinary skills and be part of a reputable and customer-focused brand.
The role of Line Cook at Farmer Boys is essential in maintaining the standards that the company is known for. This non-exempt position offers both full-time and part-time opportunities, reporting directly to the General Manager and working within the Restaurant Operations department, specifically in the Back of the House. The Line Cook's primary responsibility is to prepare and present meals consistently and efficiently according to precise cooking specifications and customer preferences. This role requires independent decision-making, effective communication with team members including other cooks and servers/cashiers, and a dedication to food safety and sanitation practices as guided by the Manager in Charge.
A successful Line Cook at Farmer Boys must adhere strictly to the company's food safety procedures to ensure all meals meet prescribed standards of portioning, freshness, packaging, and presentation. Additionally, the Line Cook is expected to manage inventory by following food preparation sheets and providing valuable feedback to management on stock levels and spoilage. This role demands hands-on operation, cleaning, and maintenance of food preparation equipment, emphasizing the importance of a clean and safe working environment.
Critical to this position is the proactive identification and protection of food safety standards, immediate reporting of any risks or spoilage, and participation in ongoing food safety training. The Line Cook must also be vigilant in asset protection without compromising personal safety and follow all safety protocols, including understanding Safety Data Sheets and responding appropriately to any guest accidents or injuries.
This job requires physical stamina, as the Line Cook will be exposed to kitchen environments with higher heat and fumes from cleaning agents. The physical demands include standing for long periods, walking, bending, stooping while preparing food and stocking supplies, and lifting items up to 65 pounds. The position demands a detail-oriented mindset and the ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team. It is vital for the Line Cook to embody the company’s vision, mission, and goals, and to maintain brand standards in all aspects of food preparation and safety.
The ideal Line Cook candidate will have a High School Diploma or GED, with 0-3 years of experience as a cook or prep cook in a restaurant or food service environment. Candidates must meet the minimum age requirement of 17 years and possess or be able to obtain the required state or county mandated Food Handler Card within the allocated timeframe. Beyond technical qualifications, the Line Cook must show genuine care and empathy for guests, contributing positively to the overall dining experience and representing Farmer Boys professionally and effectively both independently and as a collaborative team member.
