The University of St. Thomas is currently seeking a dedicated Line Cook (Cook I) to join its Dining Services team. This is a full-time, 12-month position offering a competitive wage of $19.00 per hour. The role involves working directly for the university, not through an external food service company. Shifts available include 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM and 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with schedules that may include nights and weekends based on business needs. As a Line Cook, you'll be responsible for preparing food items and assisting with general food preparation tasks such as gathering ingredients, reading recipes, and making food ready for service. This position is considered Emergency Essential, meaning the employee must be available during campus closures or emergencies to ensure continuous operational function. Key responsibilities will include food prep, interacting with customers, operating an open line kitchen in a high-volume environment, and maintaining rigorous food safety standards in compliance with ServSafe guidelines. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • at least two years of experience in short order food preparation and/or volume cooking
  • availability to work flexible schedules including nights and weekends
  • ability to remain at work or report during campus closures
  • successful completion of a criminal background check

Job Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience in short order food preparation and/or volume cooking
  • culinary school training preferred
  • ServSafe certification from the State of Minnesota preferred
  • successful completion of a criminal background check
  • commitment to the ideals of moral responsibility and inclusion

Job Duties

  • Provide assistance in the food preparation of meals in back-of-house or front-of-house operations
  • interact with customers and prepare customized, made-to-order menu items in a high-volume environment
  • prep food throughout shift and assist all culinary staff in completing prep sheet
  • set up/close down open line workstation for service
  • follow ServSafe food handling guidelines and maintain a clean work station
