This role demands someone who can uphold the high standards of food preparation, presentation, and kitchen safety that define Miam Cafe Express. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in various cooking methods such as broiling, grilling, frying, and sautéing, and should be adept at preparing food by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning, and marinating with precision. Beyond culinary skills, the successful Cook must maintain proper portion and quality control, uphold food safety and sanitation standards in line with ServeSafe requirements, and communicate effectively with team members to ensure seamless kitchen operations.
This position not only requires a hands-on approach to food preparation during busy hours but also active participation in off-peak food prep assignments. Additionally, duties extend to maintaining stocked workstations, cleaning, sanitizing, closing the kitchen according to protocols, and consistently meeting restaurant and customer service objectives. Job Requirements
- Proven cooking experience including positions of restaurant line/prep cook
- Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and guests
- Ability to work on your feet for 8 or more hours a day
- Comfortable working with a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds at a time on a regular basis
Job Qualifications
- Proven cooking experience including positions of restaurant Line/Prep Cook
- Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and guests
- Comfortable working with a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures
- Good communication skills
Job Duties
- Prepare items for broiling, grilling, frying, sautéeing, or other cooking methods by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning, and/or marinating
- Follow proper plate presentation and garnish set-up for all dishes
- Handle, store, and rotate all products properly
- Assist in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed
- Close the kitchen properly and follow the closing checklist for kitchen stations
- Assist others in closing the kitchen
- Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement
- Bring a positive attitude to their everyday kitchen/restaurant tasks
- Communicate with team members to maintain product on the food line
- Communicate shortage of menu items to the Restaurant Manager immediately
- Stock work stations according to procedural guidelines in a timely and efficient manner
- Maintain appropriate portion and quality control including proper food handling, food safety and sanitation standards to ServeSafe requirements at all times
- Clean, sanitize and keep food areas stocked
- Meet all restaurant and customer service objectives
