Job Description

American Axle is a leading global manufacturer specializing in driveline and drivetrain systems and components for the automotive industry. Originating as a company dedicated to innovation and quality, American Axle has grown to become a robust enterprise with deep roots in manufacturing excellence and employee development. They operate various facilities including the American Axle Technical Center (ATDC), where they focus not only on the technical aspects of engineering and production but also on supporting diverse roles integral to maintaining operational success. One such critical role is that of the Line Cook, currently open at their American Axle facility. The company emphasizes creating a work environment that supports health, wellness, and professional growth, evidenced by comprehensive benefits and employee-focused programs.

The Line Cook position at American Axle's ATDC is a full-time role designed for culinary professionals passionate about high-quality food preparation and kitchen management. Reporting directly to the culinary supervisor Christina Preston, this role is responsible for guiding culinary teams in daily preparation activities while ensuring consistent adherence to the company's "Standard of Excellence". This standard covers the flavor profile, presentation design, recipe fidelity, and strict portion control. Scheduled from Monday to Friday between 6am and 2pm, the position offers competitive compensation ranging from $17.00 to $18.00 per hour.

In this role, the Line Cook is expected to facilitate and manage all daily kitchen prep activities, ensuring that the food prepared is appropriately packaged and staged for efficient service and guest satisfaction. This includes overseeing quality control, timely communication with key stakeholders, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness and organization. The role demands a candidate who can not only execute the routine but also contribute to the culinary team's innovation by staying aware of new food trends, catering delivery methods, and plating techniques. The Line Cook also plays a vital role in inventory management and kitchen maintenance, helping keep the preparation areas, coolers, and freezers organized and stocked correctly.

Integral to success in this role is a results-oriented mindset combined with the flexibility to adapt quickly, strong collaboration skills, and a positive, can-do attitude that sets a professional tone in the kitchen. Candidates should have a passion for food, a creative approach to menu development, and the ability to scale dishes for remarkable client experiences. The company values individuals who practice honest, direct communication and uphold company values such as respect, trustworthiness, and ethical behavior. The role also requires proficiency with electronic communication tools, including Microsoft Office Suite and industry-specific systems.

Candidates for this position typically have an Associate's Degree in culinary arts or hospitality, although equivalent work experience may be considered. A minimum of three years’ culinary experience, ideally in a large kitchen environment, is necessary. Certifications such as ServSafe Manager and Allergen are preferred, with training opportunities available for those without current certification. American Axle supports its employees with extensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and disability insurance, parental leave, 401(k) with company match, flexible schedules, paid time off, dining perks, and an inclusive employee assistance program. Additional location-specific perks may involve wellness programs, on-the-job training, corporate-led courses, certifications, and team-building events. This role is ideal for culinary professionals who want to bring creativity and high standards to a dynamic kitchen environment within a reputable manufacturing company.
