Job Description

The Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, formerly known as Hotel Solamar, represents the brand's inaugural city-center location on the West Coast. Situated in the bustling heart of San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, just a short distance from Petco Park and the San Diego Convention Center, this hotel expertly combines the vibrant energy of a metropolitan hub with the relaxed and carefree spirit of island life. The establishment offers 235 comfortable guest rooms, alongside signature Margaritaville food and beverage options designed to deliver a unique and memorable visitor experience. Among its standout dining venues is the LandShark Bar & Grill, a three-meal restaurant that welcomes guests with garage-style doors opening to the lively corners of 6th and J Streets. This venue serves popular dishes such as the signature LandShark burger, fresh fish sandwiches, tacos, and salads, all crafted with a contemporary take on classic American beach cuisine. Complementing this, the hotel also features 5 o'clock Somewhere, the largest rooftop pool space in downtown San Diego. This stylish venue blends a hip lounge and dining area with live entertainment nearly every evening, and offers expansive seating arrangements encompassing bar seats, dining tables, poolside chairs, day beds, and cabanas, all while providing stunning views of downtown San Diego.

The role offered is that of an Entry-Level Line Cook, a fantastic opportunity for individuals passionate about culinary arts and eager to begin or grow their cooking career within a dynamic and supportive environment. The position is part-time and offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $24.75 to $25.50. As an Entry-Level Line Cook, you will work closely with experienced chefs to assist in food preparation, ensuring that each dish meets the hotel’s high quality and presentation standards. This role is perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in culinary techniques, develop practical skills, and contribute creatively to the kitchen’s operations. Responsibilities include preparing ingredients by chopping, cutting, and marinating; following recipes precisely; cooking and plating dishes; maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen area; assisting with inventory management; and adhering to stringent food safety and sanitation protocols. The kitchen thrives on collaboration, making it vital for candidates to demonstrate excellent communication skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure. Flexible availability, including evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, is required, reflecting the fast-paced nature of the hospitality industry. Joining the Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter as an Entry-Level Line Cook will allow culinary enthusiasts to kickstart their careers in an enriching, coastal-inspired setting that merges metropolitan excitement with island relaxation. This role not only offers hands-on learning experiences but also positions individuals for future culinary advancement within the respected Davidson Hospitality Group. The group, known for its award-winning hospitality management approach, partners with major brands like Hilton, Hyatt, Kimpton, Marriott, and Margaritaville, providing its team members with an entrepreneurial spirit and comprehensive benefits designed to enhance wellbeing and professional growth.
