The Line Cook position at Sea and Sky is a vital role that ensures the delivery of high-quality dishes and seamless service. The individual in this role is responsible for maintaining proper service standards from the front line through quality control and staff training. Precision in execution is key, with duties including monitoring adherence to recipe cards, equipment maintenance, and sanitation protocols. The Line Cook prepares food with consistent quality, abiding by production and portion standards, and manages kitchen operations efficiently to meet the needs of each service period. Attention to detail and organization are crucial, especially in managing inventory, rotating perishables, and minimizing food waste according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

This role is not only about cooking but also about contributing to the team’s broader goals, including assisting in buffet stocking, food cost control, and ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene regulations. The work environment involves diverse physical demands such as lifting up to 70 pounds, frequent standing, bending, and maintaining mobility throughout the shift. The kitchen conditions range from very cold freezer temperatures to the intense heat near cooking lines. The Line Cook must be capable of understanding and executing verbal and written instructions while effectively communicating with fellow staff members.

This is a full-time opportunity with a competitive hourly wage of USD $22.00 to $24.00. Job Requirements

  • high school education or equivalent
  • one to two years of relevant cooking experience
  • ability to lift up to 70 pounds regularly
  • capacity to work in physically demanding conditions including standing for long periods, bending, climbing, and working in varying temperatures
  • ability to understand and communicate instructions clearly
  • commitment to maintaining kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards

Job Qualifications

  • high school education or equivalent
  • one to two years of experience in a related cooking position
  • knowledge of cooking practices and kitchen procedures
  • ability to perform analytical non-repetitive work
  • strong communication skills
  • ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Job Duties

  • check all items against the recipe cards, verify that use records are followed for all items served and that food is presented in an efficient, quality manner
  • monitor the line set up prior to all meal functions to ensure maximum efficiency during meal periods
  • monitor the equipment maintenance and kitchen clean as you go policy to ensure strict adherence
  • prepare food of consistent quality following recipe cards and production and portion standards, per dupe from servers
  • start food items that are prepared ahead of time, making sure not to prepare more than estimated needs
  • date all food containers and rotate as per the SOP, making sure that all perishables are kept at proper temperatures
  • check pars for shift use, determine necessary preparation, freezer pull and line set up
  • note any out-of-stock items or possible shortages
  • assist in keeping buffet stocked
  • return all food items not used on next shift to designed storage areas, being sure to cover/date all perishables
  • assist in setting up plans and actions to correct any food cost problems
  • control food waste, loss and usage per SOP
