This role involves being a line cook responsible for making sure that all cooking procedures and recipes are strictly adhered to according to Black Bear Diner standards. The line cook will handle the preparation of both hot and cold food items, making sure each plate is complete and cooked to the correct temperature. Job Requirements
- Be punctual to begin your work
- Wear proper uniform including black slacks, Black Bear Diner tee-shirt, hat, and black slip-proof restaurant shoes
- Maintain a neat and clean appearance at all times, with well-trimmed facial hair and clean, trimmed nails
- Ensure all stations are fully stocked at the beginning of the shift
- Follow food safety and sanitation procedures to avoid cross contamination
- Cook all hot and cold food items at proper temperatures
- Read all food orders correctly and ensure plates are complete before service
- Pay attention to wheel caller for proper cooking items
- Cook breakfast meals to order with proper egg and meat preparation
- Fully cook chicken items before plating
- Follow hygiene and sanitation procedures rigorously, including washing hands after handling raw meats
- Keep all knives clean at all times
- Maintain a clean kitchen station and floors free of debris and spillage
- Keep freezers and refrigerators at proper temperatures
- Conduct temperature checks every two hours and log results
- Make freezer pulls as needed
- Report any food shortages immediately
- Observe safety procedures in the cooking line
- Deep clean kitchen line at end of each shift
- Take breaks on time and return promptly
- Be willing to work overtime if needed
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, up to four hours
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Ability to perform repetitive motions with a spatula consistently
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience as a line cook or in a similar kitchen role preferred
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Ability to follow detailed cooking procedures and recipes
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to maintain cleanliness and organization in a kitchen environment
- Basic math skills for measuring and portioning
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask effectively
Job Duties

- Pay attention to wheel caller for proper cooking items
- Cook breakfast meals to order ensuring eggs and meats are prepared to customer specifications
- Follow proper hygiene and sanitation procedures including washing hands after handling raw meats
- Maintain clean and organized kitchen station, including knives and floors
- Keep freezers and refrigerators at proper temperatures and conduct temperature checks every two hours
- Make freezer pulls as directed or needed
- Report any food shortages immediately
- Use safety procedures while in the cooking line
- Deep clean kitchen line at the end of each shift
- Take breaks on time and return promptly
- Work overtime if needed
- Complete any other tasks assigned by management willingly
