Job Description

Alaska Airlines is a leading American airline renowned for its outstanding commitment to safety, service, and operational excellence. As one of the top carriers in the U.S., Alaska Airlines has built a reputation for stellar customer service and reliability, serving millions of passengers annually across a vast network of destinations primarily in the western United States, Alaska, and beyond. The company values teamwork, safety, and innovation, striving to create a workplace where employees are empowered to succeed and contribute to the airline's continued growth and positive impact on the communities it serves. Alaska Airlines belongs to a family of airlines that includes Hawaiian Airlines and Horizon Air, all of which share a commitment to maintaining a supportive and inclusive working environment.

The Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) team at Alaska Airlines exemplifies this dedication by consistently earning the Federal Aviation Administration's prestigious Diamond Award for nearly two decades—making it the only major carrier to receive this honor for the longest consecutive period and the most times overall among airlines. The team's “Ready, SAFE, Go” mindset prioritizes outstanding safety standards in all operations, from the parts warehouses to the maintenance hangar. Alaska Airlines is currently seeking a skilled Line Aircraft Technician to join this high-performing team, located at the San Diego Airport.

The Line Aircraft Technician role is a critical position within the M&E division, focused on repairing and maintaining the airline's aircraft to ensure their safety, functionality, and airworthiness. This role requires a hands-on approach where the technician performs dismantling, repairing, assembly, and erection of mechanical and machinery components on various aircraft. This is a union-represented, full-time regular position that offers a competitive starting wage of USD $44.16 per hour with comprehensive total rewards, including bonus plans and retirement benefits.

As a Line Aircraft Technician, you will have the responsibility and authority granted by your Airman or Repairman certificate to sign off on maintenance corrective actions and airworthiness releases following Alaska Airlines' policies. Additionally, you may be assigned as a cockpit coordinator to ensure safe operation of aircraft systems directly from the flight deck, which includes managing flight controls, electrical systems, and landing gear. Maintaining a clean and safe workspace is essential to uphold the rigorous standards expected by the company and regulatory authorities.

This role demands strong technical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a high level of physical fitness due to the demands of lifting heavy equipment and performing physically intensive tasks like bending, stooping, and squatting. Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and company procedures is essential to succeed in this position. The ideal candidate will have a valid Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) license and the flexibility to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Alaska Airlines also requires employees working in airport or maintenance hangars to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge issued by the airport authority.

Employees of Alaska Airlines benefit from a range of comprehensive well-being programs, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with generous paid time off and holiday leave. The company promotes equality and diversity without discrimination and strives to maintain a safe, respectful work environment in compliance with federal and state laws. If you are dedicated to safety, ready to take pride in your craft, and eager to be part of a recognized industry leader in aircraft maintenance, this is an excellent opportunity to grow your career with Alaska Airlines.
