Job Description

The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is a well-established community organization located just five miles west of New York City in the waterfront city of Perth Amboy. Since 1912, this YMCA branch has been dedicated to serving the evolving needs of the Raritan Bay area community through a variety of programs and initiatives focused on Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. With over 6,000 members actively participating in its offerings, the Raritan Bay Area YMCA provides a welcoming and inclusive environment that fosters growth and positive change for individuals and families alike.

The Raritan Bay Area YMCA is currently seeking a Lil' Chef Culinary Instructor to lead youth culinary classes designed to be fun, engaging, and educational. This part-time position involves teaching children the joys of cooking in a hands-on setting, encouraging curiosity, nutrition awareness, and creativity while maintaining a safe kitchen environment. Classes are held weekly on Thursdays from 6:30pm to 7:30pm during scheduled sessions, offering a consistent schedule that is ideal for instructors seeking predictable hours.

The Lil' Chef Culinary Instructor will plan age-appropriate cooking activities that capture the interest of young learners, helping them build foundational culinary skills alongside an understanding of the importance of healthy eating habits. The role requires promoting safe kitchen practices to ensure a secure learning environment while effectively communicating with both children and their parents to enhance the overall educational experience. As a key contributor to the YMCA's youth development mission, the instructor will embody the organization's core values of Honesty, Caring, Responsibility, Respect, and Faith. They will also demonstrate leadership by aligning with the YMCA Leadership Competencies which include Mission Advancement, Collaboration, Operational Effectiveness, and Personal Growth.

This opportunity offers the chance to work within a dynamic and growing YMCA committed to making a positive impact on the lives of community members. Beyond the excitement of teaching and inspiring children, the position comes with benefits such as paid sick leave, discounts on YMCA programs and merchandise, and working in a mission-driven organization that values its employees. The Raritan Bay Area YMCA stands as an equal opportunity employer, welcoming qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, or national origin, ensuring a diverse and inclusive workplace environment.
